I don't take ads on my videos. Nor have I signed a contract for anything gambling related... I say this not because I'm better than those that do. But that instead of taking those opportunities I work a full-time job, on top of being a dad, just to finance my streams and videos. Listen to Revolution (Liberation/Stagniation). It's a genuinely good hardcore song. So as much as everyone is piling onto this fella and his decision, I can't blame him. The alternative is not any better for a lot of creators. I can't fault a guy for trying to take care of his family. Looking at the current economic landscape, sadly, these gambling contracts are some of the best opportunities. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a full career like myself to support them. But I'm less concerned with him than I am with the prevalence of opportunities like this and why we're ok with this culturally. His fame is more of a lightning rod for this subject. There's plenty of smaller creators trying to make it. Who are pushed to make similar decisions with much less attention and value. I will say, it is really cool to see iShowSpeed in Dick’s Sporting Goods commercials. It feels like a good beacon for the direction this type of "entertainment" is heading in. That Twitch and YouTube are slowly growing up to the level of Johnny Carson or whatever. With real brand deals that hopefully make their way to smaller/medium creators. So my two cents on the subject: It's not as simple as just "don't take any gambling opportunities no matter what"... Because sometimes it can really be the difference from success and failure. I don't know if that's the case for this fella, but I know there's plenty of medium to smaller streamers doing their best to just keep going... And when you have a family, failure is not an option.
