Interest Session #N07: We often struggle with how to assess students’ proficiency outcomes—without taking too much time to grade. Strategies such as project-based learning and integrated skills will be provided to help you teach and assess for proficiency even with the constraints that you may have, such as getting students ready for standardized tests. Lesson Magic by Teaching Solved will be demonstrated to help support you in this in Spanish, French, or English, but the strategies are also applicable more broadly. @TeachingSolved

You know, students CAN learn to conjugate stem-changing verbs in Spanish 1. But they don’t WANT to.
And the time I gained by no longer pushing these low-frequency verbs… before my students left today we chatted for 10 minutes in Spanish about plans for the summer.
Worth it.

The kids are gone for the summer, and I’m cleaning. If I haven’t used it in over a year, it’s safe to throw it away, right? How about 150 copies of this gem?
This year, before my students left, they said “I really like how you teach.” No one said “When do we learn to conjugate?”

Oh wow I love this for interpersonal! Put kids who don’t get along/can’t be paired on same circle. So easy! #langchat

Brilliant idea I just heard - at end of a lesson, ask students to write a note to a classmate - “what’s something you learned today that I don’t want you to forget?” That exit ticket is now a reteaching ticket! ❤️💡

I've grown increasingly away from individual work and more towards small group work. I love hearing the conversations as they help each other, and I think that more learning happens in addition to soft skill application that benefits Ss long-term. #edchat #teachertwitter

Watch a teacher make roughly ~1,000 instructional decisions in about 45 seconds. Only a few of them are about the lesson but the lesson depends on ALL of them. This is one of the hardest things to explain about teaching to people who have never taught.

Math test today! I’d like to try @howie_hua ‘s strategy of letting the kids talk about the test with a partner but without a pencil for a few minutes first. Anyone try this in the younger grades?

Something I’ve said to many learners this week:
YOU aren’t bad at learning languages.
Language learning is just hard! Speaking a new language is hard. Making mistakes is hard. Not sound as smart or adult is hard. Learning new everything is hard.
You’re doing a hard thing!!
