That might give someone (or a team of people) time to devote to a textbook project, time that is likely swallowed up with other work and unpaid emotional labor.

I have seen some calls for social-justice related funding/projects in tech comm recently, and I was curious whether some of that funding could be used to “buy out” some of the teaching time of say, an associate-level Black professor who is interested in writing a textbook.

Among the many problems contributing to this, I imagine, is that it takes a lot of time to write a textbook, and we do not really incentivize textbook writing for younger scholars (you cannot really count it toward tenure, for instance).
