What if you replaced only the worn tip of a wind turbine blade?
Dutch researchers are developing modular blade tips and LiDAR-based control that anticipates gusts.
Prototypes and tests on a 6MW turbine are planned. The savings aren't proven yet. #RenewableEnergy

🇪🇺 @EIB, Europe's public bank, lends @Airbus €3bn. With interest, to be repaid and at competitive market condition.
@USTradeRep: a risk to the transatlantic trade truce.
🇺🇸 Washington state approved an $8.7bn tax break for Boeing in 2013, the biggest in US history. Nothing to repay.
@USTradeRep: nothing to see here.
Add also the trade deals: Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and China have pledged more than 450 Boeing jets to the White House as part of their trade deals with the US - orders decided by tariff threats, not by price. Not exactly the "market-driven" aerospace Ambassador Greer talks about.
Usual American double standard:
When US wins, it's the free market.
When others win, it's unfair competition.
Meanwhile, the WTO ruled against US subsidies to Boeing too – and Europe has kept its retaliation on hold since 2021 anyway.
One loan, with interest, and Washington throws a tantrum. Can you imagine what would happen if Europe came together and started competing, with the same tools and methods, in all the other areas?
Daniela Amodei reveals the woman who trains Claude's character has a PhD in philosophy, not AI or ML
"It's unusual, right? You would think, oh, the person that's training the character of these models must be a computer scientist or somebody who's studied ML or AI for many decades."
"Amanda's technical and she technically trains the model, but I think it is very felt in Claude's character when you communicate with it that there's this kind of experience, something that's very wise, kind of the best version of the better angel of your nature trying to answer your questions."
"But if you kind of poke Claude in these difficult areas where maybe different philosophical traditions might conflict, I think that's where you especially feel Amanda because you'll sort of see like, 'oh well, you might want to consider things from this point of view but you could also consider it from this point of view.'"
"I think it's important because as the world begins to rely on these models more and more, you don't want to be locked into one philosophical tradition because ethics and morality are quite complicated, and different people and different cultures might have different answers about how they would like you to behave.”
