I don’t just think relationships are important in education. Education is relationship-centered. And if you follow me at all, you know I believe this deeply. Education is a people business. And because of that, it draws people with certain personalities and strengths. Teaching tends to attract high-agreeableness people. That’s not a flaw. It’s a personality trait. High-agreeableness people are often considerate, patient, and empathetic. They think about others first. They give more than they take. They fight harder for kids than they do for themselves. That’s also why many teachers struggle to say no. Why setting boundaries feels uncomfortable. Why they take on more than they should, often quietly. It's all part of high agreeableness. And the truth is that many students benefit greatly from relationships. They try harder. They participate more. They’re more willing to speak up and take a chance. Some students will do well no matter what. They’re motivated and self-driven. But even those students still benefit from relationships. They still respond to encouragement. They still grow when someone notices effort and progress. When that connection isn’t there, effort drops. Not because the work is too hard. But because students stop leaning in. Same with teachers. They don’t respond best to pressure or control. They respond to respect, affirmation, and leaders who notice effort. This doesn’t mean teachers are weak. It means they’re wired for connection. So when leaders ignore relationships, they’re not being “tough” or “professional.” They’re working against the nature of the profession. In a relationship-centered field, relationships aren’t optional. They’re the engine. That’s why relationships drive education.

Nearly 1000 pounds on a popsicle bridge built by students! A structure made from popsicle sticks just carried nearly half a ton of weight without collapsing. This bridge was carefully engineered, not improvised. Civil engineering students applied the same principles used in real-world bridges, load distribution, triangulation, compression vs. tension, and material efficiency, scaled down to wood sticks and adhesive. By arranging the sticks into truss patterns, each piece shares the load instead of bearing it alone. Weight is redirected through the structure, spreading force outward and downward rather than concentrating it at a single failure point. The result is a lightweight model that behaves like a full-scale bridge. Strong geometry, precise joints, and disciplined construction allowed it to withstand 947 pounds before breaking. This is why engineering is not about materials alone. It is about how intelligently those materials are used.

These #RAEinKaty Challenge students have been learning about Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences. They completed a @Seesaw sort to show their understanding of each one! Up next? Creating their own card about themselves for the card sort! #katyGT #KISDElemTech

“Teach each day like it’s your child in the front row.” Our job as teachers is to create an environment where our kids feel empowered. You might teach 25 or 30 years but you have these kids for 1. Make it count ❤️💯
