I was listening to someone argue that we Africans tend to go overboard when it comes to religion. We adopted the colonizers’ religion but still try to blend it with our traditional African ways of worshipping God. Sometimes, I wonder whether we have truly embraced one way of worship or simply found a way to merge two different spiritual systems. Sijakataa hawa wameshikwa na roho mtakatatifu nininini. But what is he trying to do with that little kiddo ?

Si niliwaambia America watu hukua wajinga. So there is this kid, Nevada Jay, a 3 year old soccer prodigy who is reportedly turning heads with his remarkable skills. Some have even described him as potentially one of the best young talents in the game. According to claims shared by his family, Nevada was dominating 5-year-old players so convincingly that complaints allegedly led to his removal from the league. His family also reportedly claimed that the situation escalated to the point where parents called the police over his performances. While these claims have attracted attention online, the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident have not been independently verified. Crazy right ?

Chiefs of the General Staff and Chiefs of the Defence Forces of Kenya (1966–Present) From the early years after independence to the present day, Kenya’s military leadership has evolved through changes in command structures, operational responsibilities, professional training and institutional reforms. The following is a historical overview of the men who have served as the country’s military chiefs and their notable contributions. Chiefs of the General Staff (1966–2011) 1. Major General Robert Bernard Penfold (1966–1969) A British Army officer appointed to lead Kenya’s military in the early post-independence period. He helped guide the armed forces during their formative years as Kenya developed its own military command structure. 2. Major General Joseph Musyimi Lele Ndolo (1969–1971) The first Kenyan and African to head the country’s military. His appointment marked an important milestone in the Africanisation of Kenya’s armed forces following independence. 3. General Jackson Kimeu Mulinge (1971–1986) One of Kenya’s longest-serving military chiefs, with approximately 15 years in office. He became the first Kenyan officer to attain the four-star rank of General in 1980. He also played a role in containing the attempted military coup of August 1982. 4. General Mohamud Haji Barrow Mohamed (1986–1996) A former Kenya Air Force commander who rose through the military ranks. Before becoming military chief, he played a key role in the response to the 1982 coup attempt, including the operation to retake the national broadcaster from rebel soldiers.

Stori kama hizi zinakuanga jaba until you go through the same. I have been at rock bottom, where nothing seems to be working and you have to keep moving even when you have nothing in your pocket. Let me tell you a story. Before COVID, during exam time at school, I was living around Waiyaki Way. Those days, fare was around 50 - 70 bob. Life was tough. I was so broke that even getting something to eat was a struggle but I still had exams to sit. In fact, most of the time, I would skip evening classes simply because I couldn’t afford lunch at school. Imagine trying to concentrate in class when you haven’t eaten, or having to choose between buying food and saving money for transport. That was the reality I was living in. One day, things got so bad that I decided to step out, hoping I could find something to eat. Luckily, I bumped into a guy who occasionally gave me small gigs because he knew I was a student. He gave me 70 bob. Now, imagine this: my fare to town was KSh 50, but I only had KSh 70 for the entire day. I had to wake up around 5:30 a.m. to catch an earlier matatu and pay 30 bob instead of 50 bob. That meant I would remain with 40 bob for the return journey. My exam was starting at 8:30 AM so I had already planned to finish at 10:30 AM sharp and leave immediately. No hanging around, no wasting time. I had to make sure I could get back home. Man, life can humble you in ways you never imagined. Sometimes, when you look back at where you started, you realise just how much you have survived. Being a student is not always about books, assignments and exams. Sometimes, it is about figuring out how to get to the exam room on an empty stomach, with just enough money for transport, and hoping tomorrow will be better. If you have ever been a broke student, you know exactly what I am talking about. There are battles you fight silently that nobody ever gets to see. Life can be tough but never look down on the person who is still trying despite having almost nothing. You never know what they are going through. And if you are going through a difficult season right now, don’t give up. One day, you might look back at these moments and realise just how far you have come.
