The Pope is the Vicar of Christ, meaning he鈥檚 the representative for Christ on Earth and the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church. This doesn鈥檛 mean you need to agree with everything he says, especially when he鈥檚 speaking in a personal capacity on matters not relating to the Church, but when he鈥檚 discussing Church doctrine you should listen.
