SVP on Maryland’s spending, and why a lack of resources no longer explains the losses:
“They spent a ton. That’s the other thing. Like for the longest time, ‘Oh, they don’t have any money. They’re poor.’ They’re not Ohio State and at the top of the food chain, but they’re not at the bottom either.”

Kevin Steele remains the biggest “what if” of Mike Locksley’s tenure
Mike Locksley on what plagued him most at Maryland:
“The hardest thing I dealt with here was not recruiting players - it’s being able to get the right coaches and assistants with me. For whatever reason, I struggled to keep the really good coaches I had because we win, we were having success, and people come hire em. I was not able to keep consistency with the staff. And then NIL hit.”

Sat down with Mike Locksley today, a day after he was dismissed… he’s not mad, and he doesn’t expect to get another HC job in college … but he’s also not done yet …

Will always have a lot of respect for Coach Locks. Genuine good dude who cared deeply about our program.
With that said, very excited for the next chapter. Jim Smith needs to nail this hire, and I’m confident he will 🐢📈
