The college that does the most to lift poor kids into the middle class probably isn't one you've heard of. It's not Harvard. It's not MIT. It might be a CUNY campus.

Wait if all of the Bronx is in Tier 7, where does Sam think Soundview is?
And like a real herb, he deleted the post.

Yes, because there was no congestion in Manhattan before the onset of protected bike lanes, a relatively new addition to most streets there.
Fuck off. Cars don't "create" congestion. Shitty policy like installing "protected bike lanes", removing travel lanes, and implementing dirt-slow speeds MANUFACTURE congestion. You're not fooling anyone, Communist. Who the fuck do you think you're talking to like this?

It's a very interesting position to take that "the liberals" need to improve public transportation when *you* are the U.S. Transportation Secretary, the head of the federal agency that absolutely could take steps to support those improvements rather than fear monger on Fox.
Duffy: "If you're liberal, they want you to take public transportation ... the problem is that it's dirty. You have criminals. It's homeless shelters. It's insane asylums. It's a work ground for the criminal element of the city to prey upon the good people."

I guess I travelled to the birth certificate office downtown for no reason, since clearly I'm not a real person in this city for thinking that textbook government corruption is a problem. I'm sure you disagree when people tell cops to "focus on real crime" when being detained.

You are all so pathetic. Real people in this city do not give a shit where the NYPD park, so long as they respond in a timely fashion to their calls and fulfill their public safety function -something none of you have even the foggiest of what that entails. There are real problems facing this city, focus on them or get out of the way of those who are trying to focus on them.

So I'm not an outer boro POC because I'm for congestion pricing? Interesting. I'll also take my increased pay now, since I guess I'm no longer middle class... Silly points like this are why I have limited my involvement in discussions on this topic. I'm tired y'all.
People who are FOR congestion pricing: - people who don’t own cars - white liberal gentrifiers - white people living in Manhattan People who are AGAINST congestion pricing: - outer borough POC - people from New Jersey - taxis/limos & trucks - regular low/middle class NYers

Shoutout to @citytechcuny alum Adrian Guin Rizzo, who got his start in college through the @CUNY College Now program and is on his way to a successful health/biomed career! He shares his story in this @ChalkbeatNY first-person piece 👇🏾

Happy to start my week at @BCCcuny for this incredible announcement with Agentcy Collective, offering free professional wear to BCC students to use as they pursue internships and jobs. Recognizing the need for these additional supports is a huge part of what sets @CUNY apart.
👏 A special thank you to @ChancellorCUNY, Felix V. Matos Rodriguez, for joining us at the Career Gear™ Boutique ribbon-cutting and supporting initiatives that empower BCC students to succeed! 💼💙 #BCCPride #bcccuny @CUNY

The fact that the Central Park loop (mentioned in the article) wasn't redesigned after cars were banned 6 years ago is a reflection of how we're not always intentional in our decisions, even when we're trying. Much needed to make sure peds, joggers + bikes safely coexist there!

Another year, another voting sticker for me (although I still miss the map ones). Polls are open until 9 p.m. in New York; don't forget to flip your ballot to weigh in on the ballot initiatives. #CUNYVotes

And that 103% got to where they were going... and I say this as someone whose home station was closed and replaced with shuttle bus service yesterday. Improvements can and should definitely be made, but I think this metric is a good sign regarding transit usage in NYC.
Marathon Sunday is a great real-world experiment in how making driving in NYC extremely inconvenient drives up transit usage.

My two favorite public school systems ✨ #PublicSchoolProud
Today, I had the honor of distributing @CUNY welcome letters to @NYCSchool seniors with @ChancellorCUNY. We're sending a powerful message to our graduating seniors: there's a place for you at our city's renowned public university!

Google Maps' bike instructions have improved over time, but for the new #bikeNYC cyclists, be warned -- you'll definitely be sent down some dangerous roads to save 30 seconds
Apple Maps: aww geez that route would put you on main road without protected lanes, or you’d have to cut across some grass, let’s be safe a re-route you a couple blocks Google maps: every lane is a bike lane if you’re not a pussy

As a Bike Angel with @CitiBikeNYC, I have a lot of thoughts about the balancing of the system. Whatever a person's opinion is, though, the one guy in this @nytimes article who says, "how are we cheating," is definitely not being honest with himself. nytimes.com/2024/09/19/nyreg…
