Canada is strongest when we come together to tackle challenges and create opportunities for the next generation. Alberta's decision is a vote for partnership, progress, and a shared future within a united Canada.

It was wonderful to join friends and neighbours once again at the Fraternal Order of Eagles’ Annual Fall Supper. Year after year, this event brings our community together, and that’s thanks to the remarkable volunteers who work behind the scenes to make it happen. Your commitment, hard work, and community spirit turn a simple supper into something much more, a chance for people to connect, support one another, and celebrate the community we share. Thank you for your warm welcome, and an especially big thank you to every volunteer. Our community is stronger because of people like you.

It was an honour to join the Manitoba Métis Federation for the 2026 National Assembly Opening Ceremony this weekend and to speak alongside Premier Wab Kinew and Mayor Scott Gillingham. Thank you to President David Chartrand for the invitation and for his steadfast leadership. Through the government-to-government relationship between the Government of Canada and the Manitoba Métis Federation, we continue to make progress on priorities that matter to Red River Métis citizens and communities. I was also pleased to announce an additional $31.8 million in federal funding to support Métis-led housing initiatives, helping improve housing affordability and conditions for Manitoba Métis citizens. Safe, affordable housing is the foundation of strong communities, and this investment will help more families access the housing they need while supporting solutions developed by and for Métis communities. Thank you for the warm welcome and for the important work being done to strengthen communities today and for future generations.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of my former City Council colleague, John Angus. I had the pleasure of working with John in the 1990s. I remember him as a hardworking, tech-savvy and eloquent councillor who cared deeply about our city. Over 23 years on City Council, along with his service in the Manitoba Legislature, John made many important contributions to our city and province. He was a mainstay in South Winnipeg, proudly representing the people of St. Norbert for many years. John Angus Drive in Waverley West is a fitting reminder of his many contributions and his legacy of public service. My heartfelt condolences to his wife Janice and the entire Angus family.

My thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and members of the Canadian Armed Forces affected by the tragic events at CFB Wainwright. This is a heartbreaking loss for Canada’s military community and for our country. Thank you to the first responders and emergency crews working around the clock to support those affected. We stand with the CFB Wainwright community during this difficult time.
CFB Wainwright is where the women and men of our Armed Forces train to defend Canada. To serve Canada. Now Canada serves them.

An unforgettable evening in Calgary, joining thousands of proud Albertans standing up for a strong, united Canada! 🇨🇦 Congratulations to Thomas Lukaszuk and the Forever Canadian team for their extraordinary leadership. Prime Minister Carney delivered a powerful message of hope and optimism. A strong Alberta means a strong Canada. Together, our best days are still ahead of us!

I was pleased to join federal Health Minister Marjorie Michel, Manitoba Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara, and MP Doug Eyolfson at the Manitoba Legislative Building for an announcement on the Government of Canada’s intention to provide up to $6 million over three years to help Manitoba expand opportunities for internationally trained doctors to practise family medicine. This proposed investment could help bring up to 90 additional family physicians into Manitoba’s health care system by 2028–29, especially in rural and remote communities where access to care can be especially challenging. Qualified doctors should have a clear pathway to put their skills and experience to work. By expanding practice-ready assessments, we can help more internationally trained physicians join our health workforce and connect more Manitobans with the primary care they need. Working together with our provincial partners, we’re taking concrete steps to strengthen our health care system and improve access to family doctors for Manitobans.

Thanksgiving reminds us that life's greatest gifts are the people beside us and the communities we build together. I am grateful for every resident, family, and community leader who helps make Winnipeg South such a welcoming and caring place to call home. Wishing everyone a beautiful Thanksgiving filled with laughter, meaningful connections, and a heart full of gratitude.

Building stronger communities means making it easier for people to get things done. Bill S-7 will cut unnecessary red tape, support our farmers, and improve services for Canadians, helping businesses grow and communities thrive.

Today, my thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones on October 7, the survivors who continue to carry the trauma, and the Jewish communities around the world who are still living with the pain of that day. As we mark the third anniversary of these attacks, we recognize that for many, the sorrow and absence left by that day remain as real as ever. We honour the memory of those who were taken and stand with all those continuing to mourn. To those who are grieving, reflecting, or simply finding their way through this difficult day, know that you are not alone. We remember those we lost, stand against antisemitism and hate, and stand in solidarity with Jewish communities here at home and around the world.

A wonderful evening this weekend celebrating Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary with members of Winnipeg’s Nigerian community. As Canada and Nigeria continue to deepen the strong ties between our countries, I was pleased to recognize the Canada-Nigeria Air Transport Agreement and the opportunities it creates to strengthen travel, trade, tourism, and people-to-people connections. Congratulations on 65 years of independence!

Great to be back at the University of Manitoba’s Robson Hall last week! I enjoyed speaking with Professor Brandon Trask’s Law & Society students about climate action, environmental policy, and the value of governments working together to deliver meaningful solutions. Thank you for the thoughtful discussion and warm welcome.

Last evening, I enjoyed attending the 21st Annual Foodfare for the Kids Charity dinner, with proceeds supporting the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. Thank you to the Zeid family, the Foodfare team and all the donors who joined us tonight for your generosity. It was wonderful to meet Manitoba’s 2026 Champion Child, Ireland, and her family. Her inspiring remarks were a highlight of a special evening!

Joined hundreds of Winnipeggers this morning for a beautiful Sacred Fire Ceremony at FortWhyte Alive. Thank you to the Knowledge Keeper who led us and the many volunteers helping with today’s events at this beautiful natural refuge in our city. Today, we remember a dark chapter in Canada’s history, the children who never came home and the survivors whose pain endures. As Winnipeggers gather across our city, we walk the path of reconciliation with hope of building a better future together.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our community BBQ yesterday. We had a fantastic turnout, great weather, and lots of good conversations. It was great to connect with so many constituents, hear your concerns, and talk about the issues that matter most to our community in Winnipeg South. A special thank you to the Winnipeg South EDA for hosting the event, and to all of the volunteers whose hard work helped make the event such a success.

Today marks exactly 50 years since the Pioneer Mosque first opened its doors on Hazelwood Avenue in 1976. What began through the vision, courage and generosity of pioneering Muslim families grew into far more than a place of worship. It became a gathering place, a source of strength for newcomers, and the foundation of one of Manitoba’s most vibrant and diverse communities. Over the past five decades, the Manitoba Islamic Association has made an extraordinary contribution to our province through faith, service, education, volunteerism and community building. Congratulations to the Manitoba Islamic Association and the Pioneer Mosque on 50 remarkable years. May the next fifty continue the legacy of those pioneers who opened the doors on Hazelwood Avenue and helped make Manitoba a stronger and more welcoming home for all.

On Monday, I celebrated 10 years of DataStream. What began in the Mackenzie Basin now helps people across Canada understand and protect their watersheds. DataStream brings together water quality data collected by governments, Indigenous communities, researchers and local monitoring groups, and makes it easier for everyone to find, compare and use. Thank you to the Gordon Foundation for its generous support over the years, and to Carolyn DuBois and Katherine Balpataky for their leadership. DataStream is a trusted partner to the Canada Water Agency, and I’m grateful for its contributions to the national water data strategy now taking shape.
