I see folks make this point a lot with Iowa as the example. It's important to remember that in Nevada and Texas EV is 80% of the total, so it's the ballgame. 2022 Iowa had only 30% of the vote be EV, so it's just not that indicative.
A basic critique of early voting analysis: Iowa 2022: EVs: D+16 Iowa 2024: EVs: R+1 And the result: ~Same margin in 2022 and 2024

Your regular reminder that prediction markets are terrible at predicting election results
Is this shaping up to be one of the biggest prediction market whiffs of all time?

This is, unfortunately, very true. With the debt markets sour on the longevity of the ai boom, you need to be able to point at stable independent revenue streams to guarantee repayment.
Replying to @chamath
Pretty much. As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue. That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

You know a politician is about to lose when businesses apologize for accidentally letting him inside.
TEXAS POLITICS: Ken Paxton’s rally in New Braunfels was the work of a rogue BBQ restaurant worker, ownership says.

4/6 Without a contract, Rozelle begged Congress for an anti-trust exemption. Chair Emanuel Cellar would only grant the exemption if the NFL would be banned from playing on Saturdays until the 2nd Saturday of December, the day of the Army-Navy game which ended the NCAA season

5/6 To this day, the NFL is still banned from Saturday games until mid-December, which is why Game 1 of the WNBA Finals has such high ratings - it's played on a Saturday without NFL competition!

6/6 Saturday @WNBA games get 50% higher TV ratings of non-Saturday games. Thursday and Sunday games perform the worst thanks to NFL competition. If I was the commissioner, I wouldn't schedule games on Thursday or Sunday to maximize viewership!

1/6 What's going on with Game 1 of the @WNBA finals? For the last two years the ratings have been crazy high! It's the unintended consequence of a political compromise made in 1961 to get the @NFL an anti-trust exemption:

3/6 NCAA President Walter Byers correctly assumed that CBS would push for games on Saturdays and that would decimate college football. He testified before Congress and sued in court. He won and the contract was voided.

2/6 Before 1961 individual NFL teams sold their own TV broadcast rights. @NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle sold the first pooled TV rights deal to @CBS in 1961 for $9.3M for 2 years. The @NCAA freaked out and declared war!

I looked at the first 3 days of EV in Harris County (Houston) and marked the precinct lean of the 62 vote centers that stayed the same between 2026 and 2024. Vote centers in precincts that voted for Harris are higher and Trump are lower. The redder the precinct the lower the turnout:

2/ Looking at the @longhornderek data, Republicans are voting like a midterm, while Dems are voting like a general election. That's not great new for the Texas GOP

Texas GOP mega doner switches to Democrat @TeamTalaricoHQ. Explains why here:
I don’t put my name behind just anyone. 🇺🇸 I sat down with James Talarico and heard balanced, honest answers on security, the economy, and issues facing Texas families. That’s why I support @jamestalarico for U.S. Senate. Election Day is Nov. 3. Make your plan to vote. 🗳️

In 33 months Houston built an entire Austin airport. 22 gates came online today, with another 26 gates coming online in 15 months. Meanwhile Austin, which currently has 34 gates, spent 18 months debating their 6 gate Concourse M, broke ground 3 weeks ago, and might be done summer of 2028.
A major milestone. @HoustonTX Mayor John Whitmire joined Houston Airports and @United to mark a major milestone at IAH. 22 new gates. State-of-the-art facilities. The world’s biggest United Club℠. The new Terminal B opens tomorrow. Read more: bit.ly/4z4JRha

Your regular reminder that there is no such thing as "free parking." You either pay for the parking lot with a fee, or it's embedded in the price of everything else. Paying for parking radically improved Rice Village!
Free parking at The Galleria’s garages is ending Nov. 2. Visitors will pay $2 for up to four hours, $5 for four to seven hours, or $25 for up to 24 hours. Some retailers may offer parking validation at their discretion.

Houston early vote data is tracking better than midterms, but behind general elections. Implies that despite record breaking spending, there is still some vote to turn out, but wow these are record breaking numbers. Hard to conclude anything tho:

Texas early vote numbers can tell us a little bit, but not a lot, and if you’re a normal person with a real job, it is a waste of time to pay attention to them until at least the end of next week
