Last week at Thacker Pass, construction crews completed the Sulfuric Acid Plant (SAP)'s final major crane lift. The team safely lifted the 120-foot tall, 156,000 pound Final Absorbing Tower (FAT) from its pre-assembly area to the concrete foundation structure. The FAT is a critical part of the SAP’s production process. Through a series of steps, molten sulfur is burned to create sulfur dioxide gas, then converted into sulfur trioxide and finally absorbed into acid in two towers – the Interpass Absorbing Tower and the FAT – to produce sulfuric acid. The sulfuric acid is then used in the processing plant to leach lithium from the clay mined at Thacker Pass. Additionally, the acid used to leach lithium is expected to generate carbon-free energy through waste heat capture, which will then be converted to electricity and reused onsite in the production process. With the major equipment in place, the focus at the Sulfuric Acid Plant shifts to steel erection, duct pre-assembly and installation and piping. $LAC #lithium #Nevada

In early September 2026, the first two of 12 crystallizer superloads safely arrived at Thacker Pass following their journey from Plymouth, Utah, marking a major milestone in delivering critical lithium processing equipment. “Seeing the first two crystallizers arrive on site this week is a proud moment for the entire transportation and logistics team,” said Keith Lincoln, @LithiumAmericas Transportation & Logistics Consultant. “Getting oversized equipment of this scale safely from Plymouth, Utah to Thacker Pass took months of coordination with NDOT, state patrol, our carriers and the communities along the route. Our first delivery was a success. It went smoothly and it gives us a strong operational baseline as we move into a sustained cadence of shipments over the coming weeks. The final “arrowhead” for our eighth, and final, counter-current decantation (CCD) thickener tank was assembled at Thacker Pass. Arrowheads are large fabricated steel sections that make up the floor of the thickener tanks. The next installation includes 20 smaller interconnecting floor plates. The plates are connected with over 6,500 bolts and will be seal-welded, before installation of the rake assembly.
