Asked myself the other day, "What does That Man Tripp even do?"
I came up with a solid answer - Welcome to the channel 🙏

Mass Effect was born out of not having to rely on the Star Wars license and 20 years later the Star Wars license killed Mass Effect
…
Bloomberg: Main reason behind BioWare's shutdown was that EA chose to invest in Star Wars: Battlefront 3 over the next Mass Effect
Development on Battlefront 3 hasn't started yet

"who do you think makes art?" should be a question you have to answer before engaging art.

Eurogamer ratings don't translate well to a 100-point scale. A 3/5 star review is supposed to mean a "Good" game, but it gets displayed as 60/100, which most people associate with a failing school grade.
The conversion messes everything up because they literally can't make "79"

this is genuinely crazy, a very beloved composer approaching bioware because mass effect was his “all-time dream project”. this is the kind of shit that EA just… threw away

"The Music That Might Have Been"
Austin Wintory, renowned composer behind games like Journey, releases 22 minutes of early Mass Effect 5 musical drafts from his pitch to compose the game:
"Working on Mass Effect 5 was my career's biggest dream project, my white whale. It is my favorite franchise of all time, and for the last couple years I'd been in serious conversations with BioWare and EA to jump in.
My suggestion was to treat the original game's masterful Jack Wall/Sam Hulick score as a starting point, and to build on it from there with deeper use of physical, analog synths and a more tightly interwoven use of the orchestra. But a love letter first and foremost (not unlike my approach to the Aliens franchise with Fireteam Elite).
As part of the ongoing dialogue, I decided last year (2025) to surprise the folks with an elaborate production: nearly 20 minutes of music, fully recorded and produced with synths, vocals and a large orchestra here in LA. I'd not yet learned any narrative details of what they were planning so this was just pure musical exploration.
Receiving the news alongside everyone else that EA had decided to not only cancel the project but shutdown BioWare entirely was a deeply felt loss. It's been hard to see dear friends lose their jobs, and this beloved franchise seemingly vanish forever.
Thank you nonetheless to everyone at BioWare and EA's music department for gifting me the chance to dream in your sandbox. It was a privilege to do even that much."

Romain Toutain revealed more about Mass Effect 5/Universe (this one really stings):
✨"The Shepard" was customizable and could do same moves in real combat as trailer
✨Everything in game was "stateful"
✨All choices from 1-3 taken into account
✨Called Universe so you could plug your saves together to create parallel universes (simplified explanation) but you could almost generate timelines similar to Zero Time
✨You could make decisions that might contradict things you've already done and so it would create plot "points" in the timeline
✨Missions didn't fail because you killed someone, paths would remain open (it worked well)
✨Absolute autonomy was the cornerstone of the game
✨No two players would experience the same thing, would have "experienced the same story but differently"
✨"EA never sells anything. they just shut things down and sit on their licenses"
✨Barman was a new race
✨Lore was incredible around new mass relays
✨"Billy" the hand thing might have generated tentacles
✨Was an idea for sharing your saves
✨He says it was fucking amazing
it was an absolute banger and we would have loved it. The people at BioWare were brilliant
FUCK

Kingdom Hearts had incredible tech.
> On the PS2, around ~2002!
Even *the* most basic enemy, a shadow 'heartless', had complex rendering and behaviour [for the time].
Flatten, render -> top-down texture, duplicate intersecting polygons, *then* sample the texture on that geom.
#KingdomHearts features these 'Shadow' enemies that can flatten themselves into the ground to avoid your attacks, reposition, and emerge again. It's a neat mechanic that even works on stairs. 🌕💖
How do you think it was done? 🤔

>Halo community does a better job of making Halo relevant as a game again using modified Halo 3
>343 can't send them a cease & desist because the studio is dead and Microsoft isn't going to throw away good PR for their flagship brand

We need to have a serious discussion about how games used to be a unique method to teach kids & teens about patience, delayed gratification, and working hard to accomplish a goal - and now we're designing away the need to persevere at all. You will learn to overcome nothing.
Naoki Hamaguchi says FF7 Revelation will have an option at a certain point in the game to automatically raise your characters level to to recommended level to progress for those that only want to play the main story.
He says he got a lot of feedback from players only wanting to play the main story in Rebirth and skip the side content, that they were under leveled and struggled.
He says he wants players who want to skip the open-world experience to have a similar linear story driven experience to FF7 Remake so they will include an option that pops up at a certain point asking "Do you want to automatically raise the level to the recommended level?"
He says players that don't want to explore the open world and just want to play the main story can select the option to automatically adjust the level.

13 year development and billions and they still can't match Max Payne 3's gameplay. Guess it really was one of a kind. 🙃

$80 for potentially hundreds of hours of high-fidelity INTERACTIVE graphical entertainment is unmatched value by anything. But people are also hurting trying to keep up with rent, food, gas, and everything else. We can recognize the incredible value of games without pretending $80 could be all that's left for some folks after bills, broski. Both can be true.
