This post is giving strong “Let them eat cake” and Gold Spoon vibes! Except we have switched it up with 125 g of peppered beef versus 250 of pork. Halaal certification costs are negligible when spread across volume. Beef has always been more expensive than pork based on basic supply and demand and the economics of business. Meanwhile the actual cost of living crisis for millions of SouthAfricans is employment, housing and basic services like believe it or not water and electricity…. Not whether Woolworths roast beef is Halaal.
Using roast beef …. as the frontline of the cost of living crisis to perpetuate your anti Muslim campaign while pretending it’s all about the poor is next level elite disconnect and dishonesty. Do better Karen and company ✌🏾
I think you are missing the point.
Halaal attracts a premium and increases the price of food and this is a serious issue we need to raise as we are facing a cost of living crisis.
It’s strange to put a “tax” on food to make sure it complies only to a minority of the country.
Here is an example…
Beef products are generally more expensive than pork products but it’s not double the price but below we see 125g of Roast Beef is almost the same price at 250g of Pork because it is halaal.
Should the average South African be inconvenienced to drive around finding cheaper roast beef just to convenience minority ? Surely, they should have a speciality butchery

I think people assume that a halaal certification means that food is only catering for Muslim people. When that is not the case. Shops are saying EVERYONE can eat there. Including Muslim people. Just like a store would have vegetarian options in their menu..
