A truly incredible beast of a machine.
This is a MiG-29 taking off with its engines breathing through the top of the wings, not the front intakes.
On the ground and during takeoff, a door seals each main intake shut. Louvered panels on top of the wing roots open instead, and both engines pull air from above the wing. Once it's airborne, the doors open and the louvers close. The reason is simple runways are full of stones, and one pebble through a compressor can destroy an engine. The Soviets wanted this jet to operate from rough, damaged fields.
The catch is that air over the wing root is turbulent. It costs pressure and therefore thrust, and the hardware takes up space that could have carried fuel.
The number that matters isn't Mach 2.25. It's about 260 m. That's the takeoff run at normal weight, with each engine making around 81 kN in afterburner, which is the glow you see at the back.
Nothing worse than flap problems during take-off.
๐ฌ๐ง A 30-year-old British woman is facing jail after she pulled down her shorts and underwear in the aisle, and exposed herself in front of a packed flight.
Sarah Parker was on a TUI flight from Birmingham to Florida on 24 July 2025.
According to prosecutors, Sarah got up during take-off to go to the toilet, she then squatted in the aisle and exposed her genitals in full view of other passengers.
The flight had to be diverted to Manchester, costing the airline an estimated ยฃ20,000.
Parker pleaded guilty to outraging public decency, being drunk on a plane, and failing to obey the pilot.
Her case has been sent to crown court for sentencing.

JEWS HIDING ON OCTOBER 7TH
This photo was taken by Rinat Even (44) as she and her husband Chen and their four sons tried to hide in the bushes near their Beโeri home on Oct. 7. Shortly after, the parents and two eldest kids, Alon, 16, and Ido, 14, were shot dead.
The youngest two, aged 11 and 8, survived by playing dead, then finding refuge with an aunt.
We will never forget.
Walking through work the other morning...
One lady whispers to her colleague something.
The other lady says "He's got shorts on and a red jacket!" is what she said. "She thought you were a postie!"
