China has quietly deployed more than 100 naval and coast guard vessels into the Western Pacific, including two of its three aircraft carriers.
Taiwan’s National Security Council reported the vessels as of November 3. Forces from the Eastern, Northern, and Southern Theater Commands are involved. The Liaoning carrier group is operating in the Philippine Sea. The Fujian was observed leaving its base in Hainan. Taiwan’s military tracked 49 PLA aircraft sorties on November 2.
China has not announced or named the activity, unlike previous drills such as Justice Mission 2025. The Institute for the Study of War assesses the scale is larger and that the deployments may be intended to demonstrate the ability to isolate Taiwan from air and sea access.
The operation places major surface forces between Taiwan and Guam. It aligns with patterns aimed at deterring outside intervention while testing rapid transition to combat operations.
NEW: The People’s Republic of China (PRC) may be conducting a major, unannounced military exercise simulating surrounding and isolating Taiwan. This exercise is greater than the People’s Liberation Army (PLA)’s Justice Mission 2025 exercise around Taiwan and includes forces from the Eastern, Northern, and Southern Theater Commands, possibly representing an effort to coordinate surface combatants from all three coastal theater commands into a single far-seas operation. FACT: There was a 7-10 day period of disruption when Musk closed a loophole in Starlink, the commercial service, from being used to launch Ukraine's interceptor drones. Service was quickly restored, but Scott believes this justifies lining Elon up against a wall to assassinate him.

On this day in 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States.
He won a four-way race with about 40% of the popular vote and 180 electoral votes, beating Stephen Douglas, John Breckinridge and John Bell. Per the National Archives and Library of Congress, his opponents combined for 133 electoral votes. He was home in Springfield waiting on the telegraph. When New York confirmed it shortly before 2 a.m., he walked home, told his wife he'd won, and went to bed.

A retired Taiwanese major general just got caught running Beijing’s election interference operation inside Taiwan.
Tsang You-hsia, former head of the KMT’s Huang Fuxing Party Department, was released on NT$700,000 bail with a travel ban after prosecutors raided 14 locations and questioned 22 people.
He worked with the Huangpu Military Academy Alumni Association, a group directly run by the CCP’s United Front Work Department. Starting mid-2025, he arranged free China trips for Taiwanese voters, with every meal, hotel, and flight paid by Chinese United Front and Taiwan Affairs Office officials.
By March 2026, it escalated. He hosted banquets across Taiwan and told attendees to support specific candidates and oppose anyone linked to Puma Shen’s Kuma Academy ahead of the November 28 local elections.
This isn’t new for him. In 2024, the military cut 75% of his pension for standing to attention for the Chinese national anthem in Hong Kong.
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council has already warned that these united-front operations are intensifying as the election approaches.
