Te Pāti Māori’s “one plan, two votes” election strategy asks Māori to give their candidate vote to Te Pāti Māori and their party vote to other political parties to increase the number of kaupapa Māori in the next parliament. The strategy builds on high placings on party lists that guarantee entry into parliament for several Māori Labour and Greens candidates.
Accusations that the strategy undermines the fabric of democracy are a racist overreaction. The strategy is within the rules. It is nothing new. Other parties have gamed the rules, including National, ACT, and Labour. Te Pāti Māori advanced a similar plan in 2020. No one objected because no one thought they would win a seat.
The strategy is consistent with the 1876 parliament decision making the seats permanent, so Māori MPs standing for Māori communities and their concerns had a voice in the big house. The reaction is disproportionate because the party is Māori; the strategy is smart, could succeed, and therefore is threatening.

It wasn't the murder of Iranian schoolchildren, the humiliation of US Naval power, the destruction of Saudi plant.
Lets not be too dewy eyed about what destroyed Trumpism in the lower Houses.
It was Diesel at $6-00 a gallon.

Just goes to show you, it may take a while for the body politic in America to assert itself, but this is what happens when the elite believe they can literally just tell the American public anything they want, and we will forever follow along like sheep to slaughter.
No more! This election shows that people actually do still matter, and we can send a stinging rebuke to the elite when pushed too far.
But now the really big question: will President Trump and his elite listen to the will of the people, or are they going to press forward with a renewed war in Iran anyway?
Very much still an open question…
I think it wonderful that despite the WASPish Americans , NY and now Michigan have elected two men who identify as Moslem, not at all forgetting Rashida Tlaib ,Ihan Omar and others.
Shows their Constitution IS working.
All these people are fearless and are very ,very smart.

Hey, all you women who are thinking of voting for NZ First. You will be voting for a party that has misogynists in it's ranks. Exit Stuart Nash. Enter Michael Laws. Think about your daughter's and granddaughters before you vote.
Meanwhile,in reality land, Peters wants 73 billion of our finest tax payer dollars for one of his boondoggle idiot notions.
@simeonbrownmp hasnt whined and lied about that.
Chris Hipkins just made a promise so hollow even he couldn’t keep a straight face. Speaking to media yesterday, he said he’d resign if any government he leads brings in a new tax beyond a Capital Gains Tax. Journalists rightly asked how that’s possible, when his three coalition partners need billions in new taxes to fund their promises. He had no answer, just awkward smirks.
This is the same Chris Hipkins who has promised a four-party coalition with the Greens, Te Pāti Māori, and TOP by Christmas. Those three parties make up around half the left bloc, so Hipkins is in no position to rule anything out. He won’t be calling the shots, they will. They know his deadline, they know he needs all three of them, and they know he’ll have to pay whatever it takes to get there. And it’s you who’ll be footing the bill.
Labour already has $18 billion in spending it hasn’t explained. On top of that, Chris Hipkins’ coalition partners have promised a staggering $232.6 billion more.
Even if just 20% of that survives negotiations, that’s nearly $46.5 billion over four years. That money has to come from somewhere, and it will come from your pocket.
If it isn’t new taxes, it’s borrowing on a scale we’ve never seen. That would push net core Crown debt to around $280 billion and leave taxpayers paying around $2 billion more in interest every year by 2031. That means higher prices at the checkout, higher mortgage payments, and no clear path back to surplus.
So if Chris Hipkins is happy to stake his job on taxes, will he do the same on debt? Will he resign if his coalition blows out the borrowing and pushes the surplus out of reach? These are questions that need to be asked.
This is the same Chris Hipkins who promised in 2023 there’d be no capital gains tax under any government he led. “End of story,” he said. Now it’s the centrepiece of his campaign.
Kiwis deserve to know the full price of a Labour-Greens-Te Pāti Māori-TOP government before they vote, not after.
National’s plan has no new taxes and a clear path back to surplus by 2028/29. The choice is simple. Stick with the plan that’s working, or risk it all on a four-party coalition with Chloe Swarbrick as Finance Minister.
Newsome is the best of a very tawdry bunch
Bit of a wanker really.
No word on Brazil,Ukraine,Argentina and the dozens of foreign elections and parliaments interfered with by USA.

Can I remind you all that it is exactly this sort of abuse of Const'l Powers by NeoLib Gvts that led directly to MMP?

Willis gone regardless,and good riddance.
Shes shit the bed.
As a woman in politics who gets my fair share of online flak let me take a minute to address the Chlöe Swarbrick question. Why is National talking about her in this election campaign?
The answer is simple: the Greens could play a powerful role in the next government and so their plans deserve serious scrutiny, because if they happen, Kiwis up and down the country will be worse off.
On current polling, Labour has less than 30% of the vote and the Greens have over 15%. That means, if Labour wins, the Greens would have huge leverage in coalition negotiations.
In other words, Labour cannot form a government without giving the Greens what they want, and Chlöe Swarbrick has made it very clear what their bottom line is: Finance Minister. Just this morning, when asked whether she wanted the role, she said “of course I do”.
Chlöe Swarbrick has also been clear about what she would do in that role, and it spells trouble for New Zealand.
The Greens want to impose significant new taxes on almost every aspect of the New Zealand economy. The Greens have published detailed plans for a range of new taxes - on assets, on inheritance, on incomes, businesses and more: nine new taxes in total. The Greens’ own policy manifesto says they will "structurally increase the tax base".
Why does that matter to you? More taxes on hard-working people means less money in their pockets to spend on their families and their future. More taxes on businesses means fewer jobs and lower wages. More taxes would derail New Zealand's economic prospects: it would choke off investment, growth, business expansion and job creation right when the economy is recovering.
The Greens also want to increase New Zealand's debt significantly - their fiscal plan sets out in black and white a plan for $26 billion in extra borrowing over the next few years.
Why does that matter? Higher government borrowing pushes up interest rates for every Kiwi who takes out a mortgage or borrows from the bank. It puts pressure on inflation (and the price you pay for everything) and it leaves future generations with a painful bill to pay.
I know many Kiwis are over the election campaign - you may be one of them. But this is serious stuff and it really matters for the future of our country, so National makes no apologies for giving Kiwis the information they need to make an informed decision.
National has the long-term economic plan that New Zealand needs. A plan to manage the economy responsibly, bring down debt, create jobs and better wages, make sure there are no new taxes saddled on Kiwis, and invest in infrastructure and health services.
I encourage you to read all about that plan at the link in my replies.
New Zealand had a brush with a big-borrowing and big taxing government just three years ago under Labour. Inflation soared, debt exploded and it left massive scars in our economy. Kiwis are still feeling those scars today.
National has worked hard over these past three years to repair the damage - but we need another term to see the plan through.
The alternative is a return to a big-borrowing, big-taxing Labour-Green government that would derail the economy and the outlook for your job and livelihood.
That's why Chlöe Swarbrick’s views matter: it's about you, your future and your vote.
Your vote matters because it will decide our country's future. Stick with the plan and Party Vote National.

Prof. Jeffrey Sachs: ‘The US🇺🇸 thought China🇨🇳 was an impoverished rice-growing country, but its economy has grown 40x since 1980. It’s a much bigger industrial power. It is technologically more advanced than the US in most sectors.’
In 1999, China’s economy was smaller than Italy’s. Today, China’s economy is larger than the combined economies of Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Canada.
It now has surpassed the US in GDP @ PPP.
