First two English re-marks are back. Increased by 12 and 16 marks. A difference of two grades from 3 to 5. How on earth are we supposed to know which grades to get checked? Report says clerical error. Why doesn’t that trigger a recall of all marks by that marker? Not good enough

As with all initiatives, value only comes as a result of adequate funding and robust implementation.
Schools will not receive dedicated funding for enrichment benchmarks, Tes can reveal, despite the expectation that revamped extracurricular activities must be provided from September tes.com/magazine/news/genera…

In a recent newsletter poll, 92 teachers told me what stops them using mini-whiteboards consistently… 41% already use them regularly. 40% blamed logistics. Dried-out pens, boards going missing. Only 13% cited routines or not knowing what to ask. Barely anyone is stuck on the pedagogy. They’re stuck on the stationery cupboard. Read the post here: newsletter.jamieleeclark.com…

I've weighed in on the great vocational education debate. From what we can see of the govt plans, I think they will repeat mistakes of the past. Also, we need to retire the phrase "parity of esteem". It's not helping. substack.nomoremarking.com/p…

Well the jury is in. @LucyMPowell is going to lower standards. Too much pressure… yes- we have heard it all before. Dumb down the expectations. Because expecting kids to know a quarter of the content of a maths GCSE is just too much pressure. 🙄 They have always used ‘the world of work’ as an excuse to dumb things down. This is just more of the same coming from progressives. 🤯 Plus ca change…

I'm writing today about kennings in Old English. Essentially these are two word-metaphors that were used instead of concrete nouns, and they are exquisite. A ship was a 'wave-horse', the sea was a 'whale-road', the mind was a 'thought-chamber', and the sun was a 'sky-candle'.

Shocker. Now look at this data again alongside how many children have access to a STAFFED school library and dedicated reading time in school. If children don't read at home, give them the means to read elsewhere.

“Dyslexic children need something else.” No, nope, no they don’t. Not until you understand just how many more repetitions they need can you understand that they don’t need “something else”. SSP is the very thing they need, you just need to accept you’re in it for the long haul.

So if it wasn’t bad enough that AQA basically re-used a Q5 from a previous paper for LP2 today… the text they have chosen is also clearly sexist AND appears in an AQA revision guide. Pay for your grade then yeah?🤔🤪
