Next year will mark the 1,100th anniversary of the creation of England.
Almost uniquely in the world, it has remained a recognisably unified polity ever since.
Celebrations are in order.

Now Russell Brand's been convicted of rape, we need to talk about Sylvie Berki. Because she can't speak for herself.
In 2014, Ms Berki said she'd been assaulted by Russell Brand.
But if she talks about it, even now, she risks jail.

BREAKING: The Court of Appeal has judged that Vickrum Digwa's sentence for murdering Henry Nowak should be *increased* to a minimum term of at least 25 years, up from 21 years.

Rapists released to accommodate unwary hoteliers.
Very Labour. Topsy-turvy land.
Exc: Evasion of Angela Rayner’s new “tourist tax” will carry a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
The measures, set out in a bill published on Wednesday, target accommodation providers in England who evade the proposed overnight visitor levy.
The new legislation is also designed to prevent property owners offering “mates’ rates” to friends that would reduce the amount of tax paid on temporary stays.

If you think this is an acceptable price to pay in order to get closer to the EU, then your ideological devotion to Europe outweighs your concern for keeping UK citizens safe.

Andy Burnham has met Muslim community leaders in Downing Street and accused his political rivals of using “unacceptable” language when discussing Islam.
This is not the first time senior Labour politicians have accused their political opponents of crossing the line when discussing Islam, its history and its practices.
Labour MPs have repeatedly branded opposition politicians who criticise Islam “Islamophobic”. Earlier this year, 26 Labour MPs reported Reform UK to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) over its comments about Islam.
Labour MPs also reported the Conservative Shadow Justice Secretary, Nick Timothy, to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards and accused him of being “Islamophobic”. He even faced calls for his sacking from the then Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, after criticising a mass Muslim prayer event in Trafalgar Square.
In a free country where blasphemy laws were abolished 18 years ago, politicians and private citizens must be free to criticise, question and debate any religion — including Islam.
But that was not the only revelation to emerge from the Downing Street meeting.
It has been reported that Angela Rayner told Muslim community leaders she was preparing to announce the appointment of an “anti-Muslim hostility” tsar.
Given that Rayner appointed five individuals to the Working Group tasked with drafting the “anti-Muslim hostility” definition, all of whom had troubling links to Islamist organisations, and that her department falsely claimed to have deleted all responses to its consultation on the definition, who on earth will she appoint?

I do wonder if Burnham had the EU Reset Deal checked by lawyers to ensure it wouldn’t result in our counterparties in LITERALLY EVERY FTA the UK has signed suing us
Locking into EU SPS rules legally restricts the UK's ability to trade on its own terms with the RoW, inc. CPTPP and broader WTO membership.
CPTPP and other FTA's are built on principles of cooperation and mutual recognition.
The EU's SPS rules are not.

This is nuts. It was already a terrible deal for the UK.
To save a projected £250m a year we added £2bn+ a year to our carbon costs and gave the EU control over what carbon tax applies to.
Now we are going to pay them for the pleasure too?
This is economic suicide.
Britain has agreed to pay into European Union development schemes as the price for rejoining the bloc’s electricity market, according to a draft text seen by The Telegraph.
Taxpayer money will be funnelled into projects to build roads, airports and green energy facilities across the bloc’s poorer member states under the plan.
In exchange, British energy companies will be allowed to trade freely in the EU’s single market for electricity.
