Really great to see a university and an athletic department that has produced a lot of stellar communications professionals - on both sides of the journalism/PR divide - just flat-out punt on doing that in the future. #GoCougs #GoHumanCougs
News release: WSU is partnering with FanWord, an AI company, to create AI-generated stories like game recaps, feature stories, player bios and "other editorial content." Soon, some of the content you see produced by @WSUCougars will be generated by AI

Oh, you mean Goff can win these games, too?
On this date in 2014, Washington State's Connor Halliday set an FBS record with 734 passing yards in a single game...in a 60-59 LOSS to Jared Goff and Cal. 😲 The record would be matched just over two years later by Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes, who also did so in a loss!

Justin Verlander's Tigers farewell was last weekend, but @freepsports gave him one last goodbye in this Sunday's print edition (along with grades for the whole team, not pictured), with some great pics by @visualdavid and some throwback pages by, ahem, some old designer (mostly).

Man, the Tigers could use a guy like that, to lead them back to the playoffs ...
Through seven strikeouts today in 5 innings, Tarik Skubal has 63 career postseason strikeouts That’s the second-most in a pitcher’s first 7 postseason appearances, behind only Bob Gibson (74)

And now I’m watching Akili Smith Jr. and I don’t think I’ve ever felt older.
I’m not sure what’s sicker on my end: Flipping on the 4Q just to have football on, or trying to figure out how many pushups Puddles has done tonight.

Have Bengals fans thrown their remote through the TV at junior, or does drafting him break the curse?

Through two games, WSU ranks last in the country in total offense with just 408 yards. The Cougars will face more even competition when Pac-12 play starts, but for now, they have real problems on that front. spokesman.com/stories/2026/s…

…also offers classes in Anishinaabemowin, and the University of Minnesota offers a full on major in Dakota Language (one of the 3 languages of the Sioux tribe)… But sure, nobody wants to learn that language.
Okay. Then you are perhaps part of the 0.00001% of the population that want to- or would- learn that language. Good luck. Sounds interesting.

That’s why South Dakota State University offers a certification program in Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, as well as a minor in Očhéthi Šakówiŋ + a major in American Indian and Indigenous studies w/a requirement of 2 years of Očhéthi Šakówiŋ language education. Central Michigan University…

It literally costs no more money and takes no more time or effort than it does to have the same words put on the helmets and uniforms in English. They’re changed/replaced every game. It’s not nearly so difficult as you think it is.
It’s just an absurd idea. What a waste of money and effort.

That’s just not true. I know that @theford absolutely would (and he’s not got a lick of Native in him); I’m not Lakota, but I’d love to learn how to speak it fluently (I know some words + phrases). I’ve started learning how to speak Anishinaabemowin; I’m not from that tribe…
Well, no one is going to learn those languages.

Your occasional reminder that a lot of what is taught orally in newsrooms is complete rubbish subeditors and producers rightly ignore. The obsession abiout repetition tops the list.

BREAKING: The NBA has ruled on the Los Angeles Clippers in for salary cap circumvention investigations on Kawhi Leonard after yearlong probe -- stripping the franchise of 5 first-round picks, issuing a $30 million fine to owner Steve Ballmer and suspensions for Ballmer, Lawrence Frank and Gillian Zucker, sources tell ESPN. Kawhi Leonard will have to pay $700,000 in restitution for improper benefits by the Clippers for his uncle and former business rep, Dennis Robertson. No contract void or suspension for Leonard. And Robertson -- who was fired by Leonard in June -- is being banned by the NBA from all business dealings.
