Who do you want to be the Phillies Opening Day third baseman in 2027?

Setting some goals early for 2027: #1 never engage with, quote tweet, or respond to any sleeper account. If we all do it, maybe they’ll go under and leave us in peace

If nothing else Dodgers Twitter can always be counted on for a good laugh at their delusion
Fun Dodgers trade ideas: LAD acquire: INF Jordan Westburg O’s acquire: OF Teoscar Hernandez & P Paul Gervase LAD acquire: INF Jeremy Peña & OF Jake Meyers Astros acquire P Tyler Glasnow, $20 million cash.

My timeline is just Smoltz slander which makes sense because if you closed your eyes and just listened you’d have no clue what game he’s calling. It’s just the same generic nonsense. Every team “fights” and “shortens their swings” and then he’s just plain wrong on facts on guys

Baseball commentary is hard, but also do a little more research and lean into some advanced stats and it will help inform you way more Instead he just goes through the motions and you get no true insight on anything

No. They don’t have a ton of money to go around. I’d rather flip Kerkering for a controllable arb/pre-arb utility guy and use the $6-$9m they’d have to spend on Sosa on a bullpen arm Red Sox, Marlins, Brewers, amongst others seem to have a surplus of those

The Phillies have more scouts and a larger analytics department than the Brewers and the Rays, the two small market teams in the World Series. Surprised? @TheGoodPhight thegoodphight.com/phillies-a…

He is worth max $14m AAV and even that feels steep. If they offer him the QO he would sprint to the table to sign it
Alec Bohm wants to return. The Phillies must decide whether his run production is worth a $23.15 million qualifying offer — and, if it is, where the lineup’s needed power comes from. Free Agent Focus from @WeintraubCole: trib.al/SCGqSpi

This came out the day after the Phillies were eliminated and was speculation from Ken Rosenthal. Putting this tweet out 20 days later and not including the correct context is terrible work.
The only way Bryce Harper would waive his no-trade clause is if the team who trades for him extends him past his current remaining contract of 5-years, per @Ken_Rosenthal Harper is in the final 5-year stretch of a 13-year $330 million contract that ends in 2031. He’ll be 39 by then (h/t @MarineLayerPod)

But but but the cap will help make things fair!
The coming labor Armageddon is much more about the owners’ desire to raise their franchise values than it is about competitive balance, per @Ken_Rosenthal

Dave please
The Hanshin Tigers have accepted Teruaki Sato's posting request The Tigers will likely post him as early as possible to give him a chance to sign before the lockout

I don’t think so. Unless he wants to be which I don’t think is the case at all

We've come a long way. Back in 2014, I interviewed Scott Freedman, the VERY FIRST analytics employee hired by the #Phillies under @RAJr_20 in their franchise's history for @TheGoodPhight. Quite a difference in 12 years. thegoodphight.com/2014/2/7/5…
Three teams left, and all three have bigger-than-average analytics staffs. Brewers: 46 (2nd in MLB) Rays: 39 Guardians: 30 League average: 28.5 The Phillies have the biggest staff in baseball, and they're already home. Like payroll, it's one input. Everything else combined still matters more.

I would expect a couple trades. I think if they feel they can get some depth for Kerkering they make that swap Marsh could be moved - projected about $10m in arb and is pretty clearly now just a platoon bat The lockout makes it really tough to see what market might move first

What’s going to be addressed first the bullpen or the offense? And do you expect any trades?

I think it’s still fair to expect for them to make the playoffs. The rotation is top tier but it’s hard to see a great path for improving both offense and bullpen given where they are at financially. Sato would change everything but don’t want to get too excited

What should realistic expectations look like next year for this squad?

We just have to see if they are really genuine when they say it’s time to try new things
