Our team @GoogleDeepMind is hiring 3 PhD Student Researchers for 2027 to work on exciting, cutting-edge projects focused on understanding, evaluating, and aligning frontier AI agents and multi-agent systems. Signal your interest here forms.gle/2onGFBnyk7MaCdJn8 and spread the word!

Huge congrats to @RichardSocher and his fantastic team. Richard was pioneering recursive AI back in 2010–2014, before it was trendy. His foundational papers from that era speak for themselves. Few people have his credibility and vision to build in this space. Best of luck, guys!

Congrats to you and your team🎈Whenever you're onto something, it is doomed to succeed😂

🚨 New paper alert on discovery harnesses!
It turns out that the quality of sequential discovery depends on the quality of the initial population.
Fixing the compute budget, we show that parallel prompting could serve as a powerful initialization, raising the discovery floor!
Rare opportunity: exciting ML topics, great location, and working with an exceptional mentor. Having met @EmtiyazKhan a few times, he’s super grounded, friendly, and brings bold vision and clear conviction to ML research.
I recently moved to TU Darmstadt (Germany) and am currently hiring PhD student through ELISS.

Gemini 4 Argon taught a robot to play cornhole just by watching a video.
It mapped the physics, coded its own simulation, and taught @Apptronik's Apollo humanoid to sink 7 throws in a row.

I would love to. The sanctions though!

🗣️ Can we evaluate the process of intellectual production rather than just the final text? Can we creatively design approaches to filter unaccountable research and nudge researchers and students toward genuine ownership of their work? Yes. 1/11 🧵

💥 The multiplication saga continues! It turns out, some frontier LLMs do struggle with simple multiplications.
Unlike GPT-6-Astra, Fable 5.1 with low reasoning has a blind spot where the accuracy of, say, 5x6 multiplications drops to ~0%!
The failure mode is very interesting: the 0% zone corresponds to a failure of adaptive thinking. The model decides that it shouldn't produce any reasoning and outputs the (wrong) answer directly. For larger multiplications, however, the model realizes it should produce a CoT first and then it gets the answer correctly. For very large multiplications (close to 20x20), the accuracy degrades again.
How many such simple blind spots do frontier LLMs still have? This is why slowing down and carefully studying generalization and safety is the top priority...

Had enough with chaotic mega AI conferences? A small high-quality conference becomes a rare gem. Glad to announce that the 4th CPAL cpal.cc is to be held in Tokyo, March 2027. This time not only we go to "see pals" but also the beautiful Japanese cherry blossom. Please join us!
The future of AGI requires diverse perspectives. DeepMind Institute (DMI) got just launched to be a hub for researchers across the globe to publish, debate and evolve ideas about Artificial General Intelligence.
