Just an incredible night of #insurance people and recognition at the #IBawards
Insurance is not a transfer or risk, it’s an access to capital with set conditions should certain events happen
We did some video from our visit with @Guidewire_PandC last fall in Nashville- here is our first one from the floor of the event talking to those making the Guidewire system come alive for insurers
We’re excited to say one of the hosts Pete Tessier @teddier has been accepted to the CAMGA board of directors.
Congrats Pete!!
Congrats @matthewqueen84 you’re @agent_insu61157 famous :)
AI agents are here, & Flow Specialty has brought them to the market. We spoke with CEO @SivanIram about the importance of algorithmic underwriting, how AI agents help the fabric of what binds insurance and how brokers have their best opportunity for an amazing assistant

It’s never fun to talk about #CAT losses when a large one is happening. The #PalisadesFire is a tragic event but there is much to be learned from it and the other CAT events from the past year. We spoke to @CatIQ_Inc CEO Laura Twidle and director Caroline Floyd
The CAT IQ Connect event happens next month in Toronto and there is no better time for the insurance industry to learn and prepare for more CAT losses

Matt has great points here. Captives insurance is a viable option and there is more capacity and attention on this risk vehicle than ever before
America faces a crisis. Wildfires ravage the Western USA and threaten to shatter our property insurance markets. Forest management is no panacea and California’s property insurance market teeters on the brink. Insurance markets can fail – recall Florida post-Hurricane Andrew. No property coverage = no lending. No lending = real estate collapse. That’s a road to depression. Captive insurance is the answer.
Captive insurance allows property owners to create their own insurance solutions. More risk-takers = more capacity. More capacity = lower premiums. Stakeholders, with more skin in the game, privately invest in wildfire mitigation. This stabilizes the insurance markets. But the IRS stands in the way.
Half a century of arbitrary prosecution of captive insurance companies sidelined our nation’s best solution. It’s time for change. End the war on captive insurance. Flood insurance markets with capacity, create thousands of jobs, and spark the American insurance renaissance. A flick of the pen opens the door.
An IRS Revenue Ruling outlining rebuttable presumptions as to what transactions qualify as “insurance” for federal income tax purposes stops the frivolous litigation. It costs nothing. It generates state revenue. It makes jobs. Everyone wins.

The politics are not the issue but I wonder how many people in the Palisades are in a similar situation?
Who had an MGA writing business and collecting premiums when no such business had been bound or capacity available two days before Christmas?
