For decades, Route 79 cut off Fall River neighborhoods from the waterfront.
Now, we're reconnecting them with safer roads, better access, and new opportunities for housing and local businesses.

Dolores Huerta showed generations what people can do when they organize for a better future. A co-founder of the United Farm Workers, she fought for farmworkers’ dignity and gave the movement its rallying cry: ¡Sí, se puede! Her legacy lives on in everyone working to change the world.

Dolores Huerta was a force of nature, and the embodiment of courage, resilience, and compassionate leadership. She taught us all about the power of civil disobedience and standing up for what’s right.
Her decades of work as a civil rights activist and labor leader will leave a lasting impact on generations to come.
May she rest in peace and power. Mark and I are sending love to Dolores’s family and friends.

Dolores Huerta was a hero of mine.
When she co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962, people thought Dolores was crazy. “How are you going to organize farm workers,” she remembered being asked. "They are poor, powerless immigrants.” But that’s exactly what she did, helping thousands of migrant laborers working in brutal conditions make their voices heard, and demand something better.
Dolores spent the rest of her life fighting for marginalized communities, even as she herself faced sexism and abuse — including, as she revealed earlier this year, from Cesar Chavez and others within her own movement. She also came up with a pretty good slogan, “Si, se puede” — Yes, we can — that I too often get credit for. But as usual, Dolores got there first.
Michelle and I are thinking of Dolores’s family, the people whose lives she changed, and everyone who drew inspiration from her example.

Dolores Huerta spent her life fighting for workers and demanding a fairer future for all.
Sí, se puede. Yes, we can. Her words still remind us that change is possible when people stand together — and that the fight for working people is never over.
Dolores Huerta, who founded the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez, changing laws and the lives of thousands of laborers, died on Wednesday at 96. A skilled organizer, she coordinated walkouts and negotiated pathbreaking contracts with agribusiness. nyti.ms/4zZMDUY

She taught us to say, “Sí, se puede.” Then she spent a lifetime making it true. Gracias, @DoloresHuerta . Rest in power.
My mother used to say when I was kid, “Joey, nobody’s better than you. Everyone is your equal and everyone is equal to you.” That’s always been my north star. It's guided me my whole life, including during my presidency. In my new book, PROMISE ME, AMERICA, I write about how those lessons shaped the decisions I made in the Oval Office. It’s available for pre-order now, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you. promisemeamerica.com.

Flashback to that time @SusanSarandon got in the face of Delores Huerta for supporting Hillary Clinton on 2016.
10 years later Delores Huerta dies a hero of the American labor movement while Sarandon is remembered salivating at the idea of a Trump presidency.

Trump’s Iran War is driving up heating costs, hitting seniors on fixed incomes especially hard.
That's why we’re boosting assistance for HEAP-eligible households — more than half of which are seniors — and urging Congress to do more.
No one should be left out in the cold.

60 years ago today, Doctor Who was changed forever when William Hartnell was reborn as Patrick Troughton in a blaze of white light. The Tenth Planet Episode 4 is currently missing from the BBC archive but its most significant moment luckily survives.

Sleep well Dolores.
She put Sarandon privileged progressive ass in her place.
Jill and I are mourning the loss of our friend Dolores Huerta, a giant of the American labor and civil rights movements.
For more than seventy years, Dolores fought for working people. She organized in the fields, she walked the picket lines, and she sat across the table from people who never expected to have to negotiate with her.
I say often the middle class built this country, and unions built the middle class. Dolores understood that in her bones. Well into her nineties she was still traveling, marching and organizing for working families, for women, for immigrants, for LGBTQ Americans.
Even this year, she showed a different kind of courage, telling a painful truth she had carried for sixty years so others would not have to carry theirs alone.
America is fairer and more decent because of Dolores Huerta. Jill and I send our love to her entire family, and to everyone who found their voice because of her.
May God bless Dolores Huerta. Sí, se puede.
