I'm not really a die-hard car guy but I have an appreciation for them. I see some Tesla fanboys shitting on Porsche for the Mission S concept. While the Tesla Roadster demo was cool, it also felt like an excuse for why the car still isn't out yet despite Elon saying it will ship every year since 2020.

alexandr wang spent his 19th birthday as an MIT freshman on a winter internship at hudson river trading. around the table: jeff yan, who went on to start hyperliquid (~$20B) scott wu, who went on to start cognition ($48B) jesse zhang, who went on to start decagon ($4.5B) and wang, who started scale AI, got $14.3B from meta for 49% of it, and now runs meta's superintelligence lab. when HRT's founder told him they were starting to do private investments: "just invest into the interns. all the interns get seed checks." another wonderful episode from David Senra.

If you are a non-technical founder in SF looking for a technical co-founder, go to hackathons. I just finished one we organized at Corgi Cafe, and honestly, hackathons are one of the best places to meet technical founders.

Apple says you need a Mac to build iPhone apps. Today I built one on Omarchy Linux, submitted it to the App Store, installed it on my iPhone over USB, and stopped it at a breakpoint in the debugger. No Mac anywhere. It's all open source: github.com/joshuaswarren/oma…

My new paper is out today in Trends in Genetics on Cell Press. I make the case for therapeutic germline gene editing to prevent severe inherited disease, and why now is the time to build the safety data needed to move the field forward. authors.elsevier.com/a/1nsie… @CellPressNews

Cursor launched their version of git (cursor.com/blog/git-at-any-s…) last week and a busy CEO of $200B company already created his own implementation of git in rust over a weekend which is faster and more scalable than existing alternatives? We're living in a different era…
Git at Scale (by cursor) has been one of the most interesting blog posts i've read in a while. It came right when I was frustrated with Shopify's internal git system. As an exercise, I've implemented it over the weekend as open source. It's a single rust binary that you can point at any S3 type object store. It uses WAL and CAS primitives and requires no other data store. It also implements bundle-uri so large git repos (like our mono) are very fast to download as a chain of static bundles. Also comes with basic familiar UX. github.com/tobi/walgit

Someone asked what I'd do if I were 17. I'd learn how to build LLMs from scratch, and then train ones as powerful as I could with whatever hardware I could get access to.

i would rather be an optimist and work hard than a pessimist posting about why things won't work. it's much more difficult and the most likely path is failure, but society fails if people don't try. no amount of "it will never work" essays will drive society forward.
Dang it’s crazy that all of this literally did happen

57 years ago today, humans first landed on the Moon. The source code that helped get them there? It’s on GitHub. Margaret Hamilton led the MIT team responsible for Apollo’s onboard flight software. The Apollo Guidance Computer software eventually grew to about 145,000 lines of code. 👀 Explore the original Apollo 11 guidance software for the Command and Lunar Modules. 🌕 github.com/chrislgarry/apoll… Image credit: Draper Laboratory; restoration by Adam Cuerden, via Wikimedia Commons.
