I don't know why video games are subjected to "it's only art if it's well written" like shit go tell fucking vivaldi the lyrics weren't good enough
The problem with Disco Elysium discourse, as ever, is that people only think narrative and artistic substance is when there's words.
It's true, DE has some of the best words in gaming - among sadly little company. But there is more to artistic expression than writing!
Games are an interactive medium! There is no literature like Death Stranding, nor can there be.
Language has an undue tyranny over all art analysis. Songs are often judged by the quality of their lyrics, even as Cobain begged critics to listen to the actual fucking music.

Here's why people might find your opinions on games invalid now that you revealed that you skip all cutscenes when you play games.
Mechanics are intertwined with motivation. Story shapes how playing feels: tension, stakes, why a fight matters or why you’re forced to slow down. If I have a level where I'm supposed to cut my father down in a Sword battle, the gameplay fundamentally is distorted, thus affecting the lens in which I see the mechanics.
The “I don’t care about story” describes your priorities; it doesn’t establish that story has no bearing on gameplay. The question is how far your conclusions reach beyond the parts you engage with.
If you see a game as a mechanical pinball machine, instead of the complexity of motivations and context behind the decisions... Your opinions on the games when you are FORCED to watch a cutscene let's me know you're eating food you don't like. So why the fuck would I want your food review? You're a Vegan telling me what Steak is good.
All your reviews are now invalid to me, now.

If we ignore the fact that I don’t skip cutscenes when I’m reviewing a game, why would my opinion on a game be invalid when talking about how a game plays?
I *don’t* comment on story in games, because most of the time I don’t particularly care about it

The greatest indictment of 343i is that their Halo 2 remaster doesn't have Breaking Benjamin in it. I don't know how the fuck you manage that. The band absolutely loves their association with Halo how much could the license have cost?
127 players on infection, open mics and Breaking Benjamin playing to the lobby.
The second golden age of Halo is underway

Really tired of the AAA trend of mixing music so low it’s near inaudible. Wolverine’s another example. The distinction between one track and another becomes completely meaningless as the only thing that actually cuts up through the sound effects is the usual bassy percussion.
I've played a couple hours of Control Resonant. It's pretty good. It's, ironically, missing some of the resonance of the first game. I hope this changes as I head further in.

Egg Benedict. Looks like boobies when shaking the plate. lol http://t.co/Abekou9rd0”
Shocking sometimes to see how many games are described as having Arkham combat that absolutely do not have Arkham combat.
Insomniac’s Spider-Man, Wolverine, Assassin’s Creed, none of these games use freeflow or operate on the same principles.
I saw a big name on here talk about how games need to stop aping Arkham, and their list included things like light attack, heavy attack, unblockables and parries. Huh?
Where’s the enemies going down in one hit? Special moves tied to combo? Combo?! Arena control?
"You can turn it off" is rarely a strong defense. Most people don't want to change the default, intended experience, nor do they assume parts of it can be changed at all.
In Wolverine's case, the best thing it could've done would be stopping you and asking if you want it on.
It's a strong recommend on Blood of the Dawnwalker from me. Excellent writing, decent combat. (so far)
Doesn't quite have Witcher 3's artistic sauce, but the timer mechanic is such a brilliant way to shake you out of that poisonous completionist mindset that plagues open worlds.
