IRAN'S SHIFT FROM THE OLD DOCTRINE OF REGIONAL WAR TO ONE OF WAR WITHOUT GEOGRAPHICAL LIMITATIONS; could take the world to the BRINK:
Essentially what this means is, IRAN is TRANSITING FROM REGULATED GEOPOLITICS- A totally new approach , not only on how it will react to subsequent attacks, but how it will henceforth PROJECT ITS OWN POWER across the international system.
This affects not only the geographical reach, but the NATURE OF TARGETRY itself; in it's widest dimensions- what, why, whose, where.......
To this extent, then, it it even blurs the line between COMBATANTS &NON-COMBATANTS. It adds a global dimension to THE CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE to be targeted; the INFORMATION ECOSYSTEMS of the World; GLOBAL FINANCIAL NETWORKS and to all DIMENSIONS OF GLOBAL POWER- note; not DIMENSIONS OF STATE POWER, BUT GLOBAL POWER.
It is vital to note that, the contemporary GLOBAL POWER is defined by INTERDEPENDECE AND ASYMMETRY. Deal with these in a fundamental way and..........
Next will write about how to DESTROY/ DISRUPT this GLOBAL ASYMMETRY....
If youโre not careful, heโll come at you with numbers, usually fairly accurate but also very inaccurate at some point.
This is a fairly lazy take from Mr Andrew Mwenda; the kind we have, sadly, come to expect.
He has peppered it with numbers, spat out at breakneck speed, at a host who in an attempt to keep up with the speed of words from Mr Mwendaโs mouth, is left with very little time to check the numbers.
Heโs has no choice but just shake his head and take a lecture.
Letโs tease apart what Mr Mwenda is actually saying:
At the core of it, this is classic Mwenda; so committed to the art of spinning half-truths and then tying it to a chosen villain.
In this case, the villain is the Protection of Sovereignty Act and the likes of Kiryowa Kiwanuka who helped push it through.
The details however are more nuanced.
1-The fuel price question
Any child with a basic working knowledge of economics knows that for many countries, including Uganda, their domestic currencies and oil form a predictable feedback loop.
Uganda imports virtually all its petroleum needs in USD. With the Middle East war, you have close to 25% of global oil supply going off grid.
You therefore have more dollars chasing less oil goods. The result is simple and needs no explanation.
Throw in a recent relatively small but multiplicative UGX 200 excise duty passed for the 2026/27 budget and you start having some proper pain.
That pain will be transmitted down the entire value chain, and the consumers will feel it in everything they purchase, including bread (monitor.co.ug/uganda/news/naโฆ)
The Petroleum Supply Act mandates a reserve supply of 21 days or so. Even if they emptied all those reserves, it wouldnโt surmount the pain the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has caused and continues to cause.
2-The Protection of Sovereignty Act.
This is largely a red-herring from Mr Mwenda. Itโs also lazy analysis.
This Act was passed in May 2026 after numerous changes occasioned by major public backlash.
Whatโs left of it is a skeleton of its previous draconian self.
The non-watered down billโs definition of โforeignerโ and โan agent of a foreignerโ certainly presented serious problems that could have crippled the economy super fast. The BOU Governor, Dr Michael Atingi-Ego warned about confidence risks, catastrophic effects on national reserves etc. The wider public also chimed in. So did the President.
A watered down version of the bill was then presented and passed
The billโs main targets were narrowed down to the targets it was meant to stifle in the first place; political and civil society actors. FDI, portfolio investments, foreign remittances, commercial loans etc were pretty much exempt. Notification, not approval beyond a certain threshold for certain agents was instituted.
For Mr Andrew Mwenda to argue as if the Act we are dealing with is a mirror image of the initial Bill that caused a public storm is either lazy, disingenuous or deliberate distortion of facts to sell a contrived narrative. Itโs hard to tell with him.
The data is also against Mr Mwendaโs argument.
At @PublicSquareEA, weโve sent someone to King Fahad Plaza every few days to take pictures of dollar exchange boards in order to tabulate the true street figures. The decline in the shilling against the dollar was sharpest in Sept-Oct and this coincided with a steeper global oil price increase.
I mean, the price of gas is a central issue in the American midterm elections. Did they pass the Sovereignty Act too?
Summarily, Mr Mwenda correctly flags policy choices to wit;
Taxes,
The earlier broad framing of the Act,
Resistance to certain interventions like the Presidentโs recent dismissal of the BOUโs intervention in the dollar market by saying Uganda wasnโt gonna prop up importers but instead concentrate on policies that drive domestic production.
These compound external shocks.
He glosses over structural constraints like landlocked logistics, heavy import dependence, delayed commercial oil production, and the limits of short-term forex fixes
He can surely fashion a better argument if he only tried
The syndicates operate on an international level.
What we have here are simply spotting agencies that charge for placements only for the real slavers to receive and do as they please.
As you seek employment opportunities abroad, be vigilant. Not every job offer is genuine. Always verify recruitment agencies before accepting any offer, and never surrender your passport or travel documents to unverified individuals.
Your safety starts with the decisions you make. Stay informed, stay alert and protect yourself from human trafficking and exploitation.

๐ Coding is not software development/engineering .. refer to where this thread started.
Replying to @lwokanda
Wages for or costs of coding have dropped by about 40% since 2023. Not that coders will never find work again.
It's just that, like musicians or journalists, coding will no longer pay as well as it did 20 years ago.
