Big news for Scarborough! 🌿🚴♂️ Today, TRCA joined federal, municipal, and community partners to officially open Section 3 of @TheMeadoway.
The new section features 1.1 km of multi-use trail, a safe crossing at Midland Ave, and a new bridge over Highland Creek tributary. Together, these upgrades make it safer and easier to walk, wheel, and connect with local parks, schools, and transit—all while protecting local meadow habitats. 🌸🐦
We also celebrated new federal support through the Active Transportation Fund for wayfinding and furnishings, plus Parks Canada funding for public realm enhancements across the corridor!
Thank you to the Government of Canada, the @cityoftoronto, and the Weston Family Foundation for supporting healthier, more connected communities.

Ever wonder how plants survive the #winter? In short, they go to sleep! ❄️🌱As winter arrives, plants enter a rest period called dormancy. During this time, their metabolism slows down and conserves energy to get through the cold months, so they'll be ready to grow in the spring!
If you've been out exploring #TheMeadoway this fall, you’ve probably noticed some strange, ping-pong-sized growths on the goldenrod stems. 🧐 These odd-looking bumps are called #galls, and they’re formed by insects like the #goldenrod gall fly! 🪰
Even when the meadow looks quiet in the colder months, there’s always something fascinating to discover! Plan your winter visit by checking out our public access map here ➡️ themeadoway.ca/public-access…
The female #GallFly lays her eggs inside the plant, and when the larvae hatch, they cause the plant to grow a protective gall around them. These galls provide food and shelter for the larvae, keeping them safe through the winter.❄️In spring, the larvae will emerge as adult flies!
