A new milestone for AI-driven science. Published in Nature, AutoDNA introduces an AI-native experimental laboratory that autonomously designs, executes, and optimizes biomolecular experiments. Powered by multi-agent AI, the system coordinates 20+ types of laboratory instruments and executes over 11,000 hardware operations. Key results: - 97.8% stepwise yield in enzymatic DNA synthesis. - 3.2× faster concurrent experimental execution. - Completed an end-to-end DNA data storage cycle with exact recovery. - Identified and experimentally validated a clinically detected KRAS G13D mutation. From natural language instructions to real-world wet-lab execution, AutoDNA brings AI one step closer to autonomous scientific experimentation. The next generation of AI scientists may not just analyze experiments. They may run the lab themselves. Paper: doi.org/10.1038/s41586-026-1… #AIforScience #AIforBiology #AutonomousLab #Nature

US midterm elections 2026 US voters rebuke .rump as Democrats win control of Congress in ‘blue wave’ President’s party stripped of control after he spent weeks pleading with Americans to pretend he was on ballot Ed Pilkington in Anchorage The US woke up to a radically
Donald Trump has suffered a huge blow to his authority in a night of crushing defeats in the midterm elections, which saw his Republican party stripped of control of the Senate and the House. Democrats are celebrating flipping Texas with James Talarico, winning a senate seat in Kansas for the first time in 94 years, taking South Carolina and returning the first Muslim senator in Abdul El-Sayed, first openly gay senator and first Native American senator. But while the public here in the UK - which overwhelmingly believes his presidency has been bad for Britain - may welcome the ‘blue tsunami’, ministers and officials will be watching nervously for how Trump reacts. The US president acknowledged overnight the Iran conflict - which has pushed up the cost of living globally - had cost the Republicans votes and has previously suggested a deal could be struck with Tehran post-midterms. But there are concerns here that a bruised Trump - whose domestic agenda is constrained after losing control of Congress but who still wields a veto and significant power over foreign policy - could now lash out like a caged animal. There could be a backlash on the world stage as he tries to cement his legacy during his last two years, potentially including more military action in Iran, Ukraine and even Cuba; more trade tariffs; and more unhelpful interventions in UK and European politics. But for now, there is also relief that the US has cast its verdict on Trump and his combative style of politics, and hope that if the Democrats get their act together (for this was a referendum on the US president rather than a ringing endorsement of his opponents), the 2028 election could transform the special relationship. theguardian.com/us-news/2026…
