Vocab, vocab, vocab! We have three criteria when we’re selecting books for @TheTeachersColl 1️⃣ The visuals in the books should be beautiful. And that’s because gorgeous images provoke curiosity and if our pupils are curious, they are likely to learn more. /1

Children’s views on ability groups: breaks your heart When pupils going into Year 6 were asked what they thought about ability tables, their responses related to the level of interesting work they were given: The ‘more able’ enjoyed being the bright ones and having special challenges set by the teacher. The middle group were annoyed that they didn’t get the same work and challenges the top group had, but they had realised that there were only six seats on the top table. The ‘less able’ were affected the most. They felt dumb, useless, they thought they would never be allowed challenges as they usually worked with a teaching assistant. They liked the sound of some of the challenges the top group had, but they knew they would never get the chance. Via 'Assessment for Learning without Limits' by Alison Peacock What is happening here, is that interesting, demanding work is being rationed. These assumptions are based on flawed notions of what children are capable of. All our pupils deserve access to a rich, beautiful curriculum and I show what’s possible in my new webinars for geography, history and religious education. films.myattandco.com/categor… Access with an annual or group subscription

Here’s what one school has to say: ‘The Teachers Collection has been a lifesaver because it has reduced any ambiguity around choosing a high-quality text to support learning across all curriculum areas. The high-quality resources accompanying each book have significantly reduced the workload of all our teaching staff. We also love the CPD videos attached to each book, which are supporting staff to further enhance their curriculum disciplinary knowledge appealing to all (from out ECT to SLT). We already feel it is excellent value for money given the time and effort it is saving.’ Use the code BLCKFRDY2024 to get 20% off HERE! theteacherscollection.com/jo…
