More than a century after Madam C.J. Walker built Villa Lewaro, her legacy of Black entrepreneurship continues to inspire a new generation of women in business. This year, the historic estate hosted an intimate ESSENCE Black Women in Business presented by L’Oréal Groupe celebration, honoring five women making their mark across fashion, advertising, technology, beauty, and media. From one generation of Black women building businesses to the next, it was a fitting place to celebrate how far we've come and the women continuing to lead the way. Take a look inside. #ESSENCEBWIB26

Dolores Huerta, the labor and civil rights activist who co-founded the United Farm Workers union, has died at the age of 96. Her family announced her death on Instagram. "As you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for us, and we ask for privacy as we grieve this incredible loss to our family," the family wrote. "We know that many of you around the world share in our mourning, and we will be following up on plans to recognize and celebrate her incredible life and legacy." Huerta co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, now known as the United Farm Workers, with Cesar Chavez in 1962 to improve working conditions for farmworkers. She organized strikes and negotiated contracts, helping farmworkers gain job security, healthcare and better labor conditions, among other benefits. Her work also helped lead to the passage of the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act of 1975, the first law that gave U.S. farmworkers collective bargaining rights. Huerta is also credited with giving the UFW its rallying cry, "Sí, se puede," Spanish for "Yes, it can be done." Earlier this year, Huerta revealed that Chavez sexually assaulted her in the 1960s. Outside of the UFW, Huerta also fought for change in immigration, voting rights, women's rights, LGBTQ rights and more. Huerta received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, in 2012. Photo by Mike Blake via Reuters

As we get ready for the historic #Midterms2026, our great American Republic is at stake. Our liberal Democracy has stood, changed, grown, and expanded rights for 250 years. We were once the envy of the world. Now, not so much. We need a rebirth, a renewal, and a redefined pathway forward. My interview with @NewsHour #America250 #Freedom #Elections #Vote

A woman has filed a lawsuit against Alpha Delta Phi at the University of Chicago, alleging she was raped at a fraternity party in February and that the fraternity and the university were aware of years of sexual assault reports. CBS News' @lilialuciano spoke with Jane Doe's attorney about what she is claiming took place eight months ago, and what she hopes her lawsuit will accomplish. ADPhi said in a statement that they are aware of the allegations and "take them extremely seriously." "The conduct described is deeply troubling and inconsistent with our values," the statement continues. They said they have suspended the member involved. cbsn.ws/47xB0II

People often wonder why more good people don’t go into politics. Well, in large part, it’s because of things like what Vivek Ramaswamy did to his opponent Amy Acton. Ads like the one he put out are simply disgusting. They are examples of gutter politics, of trying to paint opponents in the most degrading light. The ad that he and his campaign produced, endorsed, and are standing behind tells you everything about his character, or lack thereof. It tells you how low he will go. It tells you all you need to know about the kind of politician he is. I do not use the word leader because this is not the behavior of a leader. We in this country have the opportunity in these midterm elections to elect leaders of character, of compassion, of integrity. Who treat their opponents with respect, with regard for them their history, for their families. The good people of Ohio know gutter politics when they see it. The people of this country are going to throw men like this to the curb where they belong. May they can sit there and reflect on their behavior. They definitely shouldn’t be sitting behind a desk in a state capital or in our nation’s capital. End of story

Halle Berry is at the center of a growing online conversation as new developments emerge in her ongoing custody dispute with former husband Olivier Martinez. With much of the testimony taking place behind closed doors, the case raises a larger question: Where should the line be drawn between public interest and a family's right to privacy? Sabrina Carpenter remembered Dolly Parton as "one of the only people" who everyone "could universally agree on" in her tribute to the late icon: “She meant kindness, joy, quick comebacks, rhinestones, big hair, family, radiance, and love," said Carpenter. "I think Dolly was one of the only people on planet Earth that everyone could universally agree on, which I think is very special in any artist. But there’s nobody like Dolly.” variety.com/?p=1236919337&pr…

Thank you for this @IAmSophiaNelson ♥️
Surviving childhood sexual abuse is unthinkable. The truth is, you never get over it--you learn through painful therapy and hard work to live beyond it. Release yourself of shame or blame, and try to become a good human despite it all. Dr @amyactonoh did all that. She deserves our compassion, admiration, and respect. The Republican Party is vile and clearly hates women. They've crossed every line of decency there ever was. My thoughts @Substack iamsophianelson.substack.com… #OhioGovernor #AmyActon #VivekRamaswamy
