I had the opportunity to work with Prof. @runzhou_tao and help with early testing and establishing the baseline for the new ECDSAFAIL Lean challenge. Looking forward to a fun challenge that deepens our understanding of the quantum threat to Bitcoin and the broader blockchain ecosystem, including @Theta_Network.

How big does a quantum computer need to be to break Bitcoin?
Nobody knows exactly. ecdsa.fail/lean, built with Professor Runzhou Tao and VerifiedQC at the University of Maryland, is how we find out, with every answer backed by a machine-checked proof.
Two tracks. Open now. Bring your agents.

Bots.theta store is in the works on Wave Web.
Check it out, no login required unless you want to save.
web.oswave.io/tns/bots.theta
• Every bot's mascot, rules, listing and knowledge cards are minted on BrainVault v3 on @Theta_Network
• Each bot gets its own .theta or .bots.theta name
• Users can create, mint and sell bots
• Pin any bot to utilize in your workflow
• Create bot Sets as complete workflows
• Load a Set like Planner → Scribe → Tally → Clerk → Checker and they hand off work like a team
• A Mission sets what "done" means, and Checker sends failures back to get fixed
Meet CHIEF, your project lead bot
• Explain your project and CHIEF asks a few quick questions
• It picks the best team of bots from the store or your own pinned bots
• It writes each bot's role, goals and what "done" looks like
• During a run it routes problems back to the right bot, but never does their job
Productivity bots
• Planner turns a goal into a dated schedule
• Scribe writes the email, summary or post
• Tally does budgets and numbers in code, never guessed
• Clerk turns messy notes into tasks and decisions
• Checker checks the work against its sources

How it works: a photo might show a person, a bike and a train, but only “person” is labeled. Treating the missing labels as “no” teaches the model wrong answers.
Those wrong labels stand out because the model makes large errors on them. The method spots them during training and ignores or corrects them.

Real-world image data is rarely fully labeled. Prof. Kim’s CVPR 2022 paper “Large Loss Matters” found that models learn the true signal first, then start memorizing the gaps as noise.
His fix stops that memorization and beat prior state-of-the-art methods on major benchmarks.

Why it matters: every other “Alibaba” link this year was indirect — a partner of Alibaba Cloud, or Ant Group’s ZAN. This is Alibaba Cloud itself, confirmed from its own account.
The biggest partner of the year to confirm it themselves.

A KEY STEP IN A QUANTUM ATTACK ON BITCOIN NOW REQUIRES FEWER THAN 900 LOGICAL QUBITS
Theta Labs CTO Jieyi Long has developed a quantum circuit performing elliptic-curve point addition on secp256k1, the cryptography used by Bitcoin and Ethereum, with just 874 logical qubits and 2.4 million Toffoli gates.
The breakthrough brings the circuit below Google’s previously published upper bounds of 1,175 logical qubits and 2.7 million Toffoli gates.
The development could reduce the hardware requirements for a future quantum attack capable of recovering private keys from exposed public keys.
However, the circuit represents only one component of Shor’s algorithm, not a complete attack. No full-attack resource estimate incorporating the new design has been published.
Current quantum computers remain far from executing such an attack, which would require hundreds of error-corrected logical qubits and tens of millions of quantum operations.
The takeaway for Bitcoin is that the theoretical hardware requirements for a quantum attack are falling, but Google’s demonstrated hardware remains far from what’s required.
The core step of a quantum attack on Bitcoin and Ethereum now fits in under 900 logical qubits within Google's gate budget. In three published attack designs, the machine would shrink by zero to about 28%.
On October 13, Jieyi Long of Theta Labs posted an 893-qubit circuit to ECDSA Fail, an open benchmark for the point addition that Shor's algorithm repeats to recover a private key. A day later he posted an 874-qubit version. Both stay below the 1,175 qubits and 2.7 million Toffoli gates Google proved for its own circuit in March.
Narrower circuits exist, down to 676 qubits, but all of them exceed Google's gate count. The 676-qubit one needs about 150 times as many.
Pierre-Luc Dallaire-Demers, a co-author of the ECDSA Fail paper, put the physical saving at 25% for the IonQ, Oratomic and Google attack designs. I checked each one.
- Google: about a quarter, if every part of the machine shrank with the qubit count.
- Oratomic: nothing with its published codes, and at most 16% with a code sized for 893 qubits.
- IonQ: about 28% fewer ions, but longer attempts, because the circuit needs about 1.6 times IonQ's Toffoli gates per addition.
Nobody has compiled a full attack around either circuit yet.
