Daughter: I’m wearing pajamas today. Me: I wish I could. Daughter: Why don’t you? Folding to societal pressure? Me: No, I have a job. Daughter: Oh, right. Sometimes I forget you do other things and don’t just drop us off at school. Me: 😐

The basic mechanism: The First Amendment and Section 230 sharply limit how states can dictate platform moderation. So AGs sue under state UDAP statutes instead, claiming the platform "deceived" users about its own features. Ben has documented this exact approach his post on online speech platforms and "unfair" product design. The claim frames this as about "honesty," but in actuality it is about how the platform presents speech. laweconcenter.org/resources/…

The death of internet anonymity is looming, bringing with it severe implications for our free speech rights. And no one seems to want to stop it. Laws aimed at protecting children online could have serious unintended consequences. 📰 @BostonGlobe 🖊️ @sarahemclaugh

Discord told users it doesn’t look at their messages, calls, or other content when sorting accounts by age. Florida is now suing Discord because it doesn’t look at their messages, calls, or other content. The complaint objects that Discord’s filters only scan images and videos and leave text, voice, and calls untouched. It lists voice and video channels as an unfair practice. It wants ID checks before users can be seen or share anything. The state is seeking up to $150,000 per violation and a court order to make it happen. Florida calls this child safety but it's a demand that nobody on Discord gets to have a private conversation again.

lol, Musk hates when people overstate claims about their products! xitter.cf/elonmusk/status/211113…
Going forward, all advertising on 𝕏 will be subject to a reasonable esthetic standard. Advertisers who post ads that are ugly, shrill, strident or overstate claims about their product will be barred from advertising.

S1E1 of Rooster 🐓 Fighter, it opens up to a child and mother saying they will have Yaki Tori for dinner (English duv). Wondering if it is generally known Tori means bird (often chicken) and Yaki refers to grilling.

NOW: Oral arguments in the Buffalo shooting case (Patterson v. Meta). We are seeing the very dangerous implications of green-lighting social media addiction theories. youtube.com/watch?v=Sz1t7_2r…

Why am I suddenly getting violent posts on X? Machette attack, person sucked into jet engine, car strike? I've been blocking and reporting, but I don't see this does much. I may just go away a while and see if it improves later. If not, then I may just go away. #algorithm

Sigh, AI when put in less than compotent hands can produce less thanb compotent results. A dev wanted to upload some code that an AI generated. I delayed the upload and spent a few hours reviewing. Glad I did, he was about to lead us into rather public a data leak. #AI

I was chatting with a friend in LA who is going to be working in SF and she said it’s cheaper for her to just rent a house in LA and fly back and forth than to rent in SF rn
Any sane city would treat it as a five-alarm fire, a screaming emergency, that a two bedroom apartment costs over six thousand dollars a month on average. How can anyone without a high-earning tech job or a house to inherit afford to live here and raise a family?
