@_NishantK set out to examine whether the assumptions held in @anuragkashyap72 's #movie Eeb Allay Ooo! (movie trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=e7HDLJMt…), depicting "langur call imitators" who perform the job of thwarting rhesus macaques, hold ground. The team used playback devices that brayed (i) the recorded "langur call by Delhi Municipality trained expert"; (ii) the recorded call of a langur, you won't find any effect. This belief about langur sound held no ground, similar to the effect of tiger/leopard roar playbacks: monkeys did not care much in the absence of experiential learning. #Langur call playbacks have been effective in areas where these two species coexist (video evidence to be uploaded). We are in arms race of coexistence with monkeys and so many animals. All these actions of feeding animals, chasing them/shouting at, using sticks, stones and catapult etc. will likely exacerbate problems, with poor assessments for consequences. 📢📢From the Pages of #MankiBaat: 1 (आओ झाँके … बन्दर के अंदर); a booklet offering a unique perspective on Human-Macaque Interactions. As part of the SMGFR-IV project @weareAUD & @India_Alliance project at @wii_india / @OxfordBiology, @_NishantK created a fascinating booklet that explores the world of macaques, conveyed through poetic and satire approach for Public Impact of Science. Faculty & Students from @weareAUD took on the challenge of writing creatively as macaques, sharing their insights on human-animal interactions and the complexities of urban life. The booklet features illustrations by Mr. Sundeep and offers a unique perspective on the unintended consequences of feeding urban wildlife. It highlights the importance of thoughtful urban planning and coexistence with our non-human neighbors. It showcases the diverse perspectives and insights of our team members, who have imagined themselves as macaques, capturing the essence of these fascinating creatures in a blend of poetry and science.
