I have instructed a review of all government property leases to ensure value for money. The Government spends billions of dollars on rent, and we must examine how these funds are being used.
As part of our National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRRA) efforts, we will pursue plans for a Government Campus around Parliament. Preliminary analysis suggests that current rental expenditure could support a long-term lease arrangement through a public-private partnership, with minimal additional cost to the public purse.
We will carefully evaluate this option to ensure that it delivers value for money and provides modern, functional and resilient facilities for the effective delivery of public services.

Spoke to ITV news today & rejected false allegation made by Beenie Man about the Gov’t’s Hurricane Melissa-related expenditure.
$84-billion from the budget has been expended to address critical needs of Jamaicans.
$1.7B in donations are being spent in a sustainable manner.
One year after Hurricane Melissa caused significant damage to Black River Hospital, Prime Minister Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness today(Oct. 28), marked the hospital’s reopening.
The hospital’s bed capacity has increased from 150 to 180, with additional equipment, upgraded male and female wards, paediatric facilities and operating theatres. The majority of the rebuilding work was completed in under eight months, while work on the administrative facilities continues.

Beenie Man has raised questions about a Beenie percent of the recovery spend: 2%. The amount dwarfs in comparison to the overall relief budget but the clarity must be given for the record.
There are persons who believe that the $1.7 Billion received in Donations should ALL be given in grants. That is okay.
The problem is that the Government has given more than the amount received in donations away in grants.
The ROOFS programme has close to 118,000 applications. That is less than $15,000.00 JMD per person if the $1.7Bn is handed out in grants. The Govt will be spending over $22 Billion Dollars on the ROOFS Programme alone. More than 10x the amount received in donations.
$500 Million was allocated to MSME's as grants. $192 Million in Agricultural Grants. This does not include the rehabilitation of schools, roads, clearing debris and rebuilding other infrastructure that was damaged including bridges and public services.
"The people who should get the money" is a gross misunderstanding of the relief programme. The $1.7Bn does not include the 2700+ container homes that are to be completed and installed.
The $1.7 Billion is approximately 2% of what is being spent on the relief and recovery process.

I know that many families in South St. James are still struggling to recover from the impact of Hurricane Beryl and Hurricane Melissa. For some, the damage to their homes has meant living with uncertainty and waiting for the help they need to repair their roofs.
Through the ROOFS Programme, we have assessed approximately 115,000 households and have been providing grants to help families purchase materials and repair their homes.
I understand the frustration of families who have been assessed but are still waiting on their grants. I want to assure you that you have not been forgotten. We are working to secure additional resources so that we can reach more households and speed up the assistance.
As Prime Minister, I have a responsibility to manage the people’s wherewithal carefully. We must provide relief to families in need while ensuring that essential services, including our schools and health centres, can continue to receive the funding they require. We will be reviewing areas where spending can be reduced, including Government travel, so that more resources can be directed towards helping families rebuild.
During this visit, I also had the opportunity to hand over a new three-bedroom home to Mr. Dobson, whose household includes eight family members spanning three generations. After losing his home during Hurricane Melissa, his family now has a place where they can begin to rebuild their lives with greater security and peace of mind.
Every family waiting for assistance matters. I remain committed to ensuring that we continue to provide support to affected Jamaicans as resources become available and help more families restore their homes and move forward.

One group takes a hardline on protecting Jamaica's natural resources, yet appears indifferent towards tough gun legislation that would safeguard our citizens.
Child advocacy groups note that 47 children are murdered by the gun each year in Jamaica, while these same groups have reported Jamaica to the UN regarding tough legislation sentencing for gun offenses.

A mother bear lost her cub and two villagers lost their lives.
A tragic incident in Chhattisgarh, India, left two villagers dead and another woman injured after a female bear reportedly attacked them. The bear’s cub had died a day earlier, though the claim that grief triggered the attack has not been scientifically established.
A heartbreaking reminder that when humans and wildlife share the same space, the consequences can be devastating. 🐻
