APOEL official statement: Our club has been punished for the second time this season for incidents of racist behaviour. This decision means that our next home match will be played behind closed doors, while the club has also been fined €40,000. It is truly tragic that, in such an important and symbolic year for APOEL, as we celebrate a century of history, contribution and pride, we find ourselves facing incidents of this nature. Those who engage in such behaviour should be ashamed of themselves. Through their actions, they not only insult the values of sport, social solidarity and human equality, but also the 100-year history of APOEL. As a board of directors, we are making every possible effort to identify those responsible. These efforts will continue with the aim of holding everyone involved accountable. However, tackling this issue is a responsibility that extends to all of us. Each and every one of us must contribute to eliminating behaviour that has no place at APOEL and that disrespects the club’s history and values. Such behaviour causes APOEL to “bleed”, first and foremost morally, but also financially. It harms the club, deprives supporters of the opportunity to back their team from the stands, and tarnishes an anniversary that should unite us all around our shared history and pride. APOEL is its history, its values and its supporters. Its 100-year legacy deserves the respect of us all.

AEK’s press spokesperson, Kyriakos Demetriou, spoke to Supersport 104 on the programme “Good Morning Sports”, hosted by Alkis Botsos and Andreas Poyiadjis. “I made a comment, essentially saying that, particularly in the first half, certain other individuals seemed determined to become the centre of attention, rather than the players or, if you like, the coaches, as should be the case in a derby, through their performances on the pitch. “I’ll explain what I meant by giving specific examples that support my comments and what I said yesterday. “In the 41st minute, towards the end of the first half, there was a clear foul - a stamp by Duverne - right on the edge of the penalty area, but no yellow card was shown. “Immediately afterwards, in the 44th minute, there was another foul on the edge of the penalty area, again without a yellow card being shown. On top of that, the defensive wall was allowed to stand just seven metres away. “Play continued, Milićević took a shot, and it was clearly a corner. However, the corner wasn’t awarded, and instead our captain received a yellow card for protesting. “In the 49th minute - meaning the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time, just so there’s no confusion - there was a clear foul on Keller, out wide on the left, just outside the penalty area. Instead of awarding the foul, the referee showed the German player a yellow card for diving. “Then we have the incident of the match in the 53rd minute: Duverne blatantly punched Milićević. “Anyone who wants to verify what I’m saying can simply watch the match highlights and notice that the referee was just four metres away from the incident, with a completely unobstructed view. “It was simply a matter of seconds. He allowed play to continue, and Ewandro subsequently hit the post. “These incidents caused enormous frustration both in the stands and on the pitch.”

AEK secured a 2-0 victory over Omonoia to go top of the league. Omonoia started strongly, creating several early chances, but failed to capitalise. AEK took the lead in the 50th minute through Bajic, who benefited from a deflection off Viktoros before finishing past Fabiano. Omonoia responded with chances of their own, including an Evandro effort that struck the post. AEK doubled their lead in the 69th minute when Layouni capitalised on a defensive error by Viktoros.

Pafos and Nea Salamina played out a 0-0 draw at the Ammochostos Stadium in the seventh round of the league. Pafos dominated possession and created several chances but failed to score, with Guga and Biel coming closest. Nea Salamina also threatened, hitting the post early in the first half. The second half saw few clear-cut opportunities despite Pafos' continued pressure. Both teams made substitutions, but neither could find a breakthrough, leaving them to share the points.

Olympiakos midfielder Georgios Okkas is set to undergo surgery after struggling with an abdominal and groin injury. The 23-year-old Cypriot, who has enjoyed an impressive start to the season, will undergo the procedure in a bid to resolve the issue and make a full recovery. Okkas is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks, dealing a blow to Olympiakos and leaving the Green and Blacks with fewer options in midfield.
