I get wanting angst and everything, but Buck telling Eddie he is a bad father isn’t angst.. it’s ruining eight years of friendship and going against the core of Buck’s character

I fucking hate annual corporate self-reviews and goal-setting. No, I don't want to identify growth opportunities or outline my five-year career plan. My goal is to get paid every two weeks.

Finally got to watch Dorothy(β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή!!) and I know my opinion aligns w the popular ones but if had to share my two cents: this film is a wonderful take on nature v nurture. Queerness is often treated like it’s unnatural behaviour when it exists in nature all around us. β€”

In Dorothy, through four characters, the director shows the spectrum of society's rationalization of honour killings. The parotta master is a kind man, who feeds poor kids and proudly says there's no need to pay for love. But when it comes to Subbu, he justifies and rationalizes the honour killing as mercy killing. This recasting a heinous crime as compassion, allows him to sleep peacefully. The police constable is not that kind. He bends laws for powerful people, for a suitable fee. He assuages his conscience saying that honour killing isn't something people do for pleasure. In his worldview, it's an unpleasant duty. He sleeps telling himself "you got to do, what you got to do". The hero, Karthik , himself initially considers honor killing. He tells himself that it's the only way to save his mother. But a part of him knows thats not the whole truth. He's a victim of childhood bullying and has internalised the idea that shrinking from violence and showing vulnerability is unmanly. He hates any man displaying femininity possibly because it reminds him of his childhood. A feminine man holds a mirror to his past and that deepens the disgust. He partially justifies his action by the disgust he feels. The villain ( whistle veeraiya) is the only character who's honest about honor killing. He at least doesn't pretend to himself that he's a good guy. Paradoxically the only one who sees the evil of taking a life for so called honour, is the man (Vadivu) who spent his youth as a murderer. The silent supporters who rationalize, justify or passively enable honour killing are one of the major reasons for its continuation even today.

Reading all the criticism on #Dorothy one thing is clear. People don't see love as a deep connection between two people, beyond all socially constructed barriers. They see it as a transaction which can't be legitimate outside of social barriers.

The beauty of hope is, it doesn't need your belief to exist in someone else. The beauty of pessimism is, you can take it everywhere and it won't leave you for someone else till you truly let it go.
Dorothy. Unrealistic. Immature. People don't change their views easily, especially when it comes to things that invite ridicule. Everybody talks about acceptance but nobody talks about what it takes to develop that kinda acceptance. When a person is rooted, grounded and able +

Interesting that we want realism only when trans joy is showed on screen. OF COURSE THIS LEVEL OF QUEER JOY AND ACCEPTANCE IS UNREALISTIC BUT SO WHAT? SO FUCKING WHAT? Why does a trans character have to only suffer on screen to fulfill your cinephile sense of authenticity?
