Because I saw @omaclaren do it I thought why not? Revise your math biology through rail surfing game

since its close to halloween, please remember to not buy any taxidermy bats you see online. they are ALL culled in large numbers for just this purpose, and to be put in a resin box sold on amazon. please don't support their extinction, and remember NONE ARE ETHICALLY SOURCED

teaching second-year engineering students 'engineering machine learning'. They said can't learn anything without taking subway surfer style game interludes, so vibed this game quickly omaclaren.github.io/open-lea…
Love to see the mathematicians fighting back :).
👀👀 "[…] we provide several examples of AI mistranslations of natural language (NL) statements and proofs into Lean in practice, resulting in mismatches between NL proofs and their Lean 'verifications'. These include OpenAI's announced Navier-Stokes proof. In particular, we show that the formalised Lean proof does not correspond to the NL proof of blow-up of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations."

non-uniqueness in the pseudo-one-dimensional limit for Turing patterns on parallelograms
doi.org/10.1017/S09567925261…
What happens to a Turing instability when you squash space? I'd thought it would tend to a 1D instability.
However, as I should know, the limit of the process is not necessarily the process of the limit.
Namely, the characteristics of the instability depend on how you squash space.
I was genuinely surprised at the results.
What does this mean? Turing patterns still occur, but the devil's in the detail.
You can't expect to model a thin space as 1D and forget the details. It won't compare well with experimental data.
An excellent companion to my previous paper link.springer.com/article/10…

Today's record A Level maths results numbers show the subject retaining its position as most popular.
An increase of 3.7% on the previous year was welcomed by PM Andy Burnham, who commented "it's brilliant to see more students taking maths".

Here’s a fun fact I just learned. Christopher Nolan is red-green colour blind!
Colour blindness has never stopped me colouring (it does amuse my children when I ask which the green crayon is), I wonder what support Nolan has in place to support his creating. 🤔
@colourblindorg
A mathematician’s apology, the brief version:
Replying to @LokiJulianus @doomslide
People should realize that 95 % of Mathematicians have been worthless for the last 60 years, so why would they lose their "jobs" now?
AI or not, they're useless just the same

On the short list for the saddest biographical story in math history
Niels Abel, born exactly 224 years ago today, proved at 21 that there is no algebraic formula to solve equations of degree 5, settling a 250-year-old problem.
He paid the printer himself and compressed the proof to 6 pages to cut costs. He sent a copy to Gauss, who never responded. Abel died of tuberculosis at 26. Two days later, a letter arrived announcing he'd been appointed professor in Berlin.

Any Dungeon Crawler Carl fans? I made a crochet version (and a pattern on my Etsy). 😊 this has been such a passion project for me. DCC has had a major impact on my life this last year.
