Part 5 of Middle C  Part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, and now part 5  available to read at thoughtrowvignettes.com/  . This short story has developed a life of its own. The characters are refusing to let go. In order to finish out the saga between Nicolas and Elise, I’m going to turn it into a short read book. Probably available on Amazon KDP, or for sure a digital download. Either way, if you want to find out how it all turns out, you’ll have a couple of options. I have other short stories that I want to introduce to Thought Row Vignettes in the coming weeks. . After you read Middle C, where do you think this romance is headed?  . The short stories and essays published in Thought Row Vignettes are written entirely by me, Rod Jones Artist and Writer, using only a human hand and imagination. AI does not write, revise, or generate the fiction, essays, dialogue, plots, or endings. Any imperfections in grammar or punctuation are authentically mine. . Some accompanying visuals may be original photography, properly licensed stock images, or AI-generated illustrations created from my own visual direction. These images are visual companions to the writing, not substitutes for it. . In a web where automated systems generate so much of the traffic and language, Thought Row Vignettes remains a small space for human-made fiction and reflection, one human sharing stories with another. . . #thoughtrowvignettes #shortstory #sundayreads #sunsetblvd #serialfiction #Sundaymatinee

From time to time, there may be a Sunday without a Thought Row Vignettes Sunday Matinee post. Why? Life happens. But more often than not it’s simply because the short fiction story needed more time to percolate through my brain and onto the page. . Part two of the short story Middle C, will appear on my newsletter, Sunday the 25th. thoughtrowvignettes.com/  . The short story starts out when a guy bumps into a car and tries to leave a note. The owner of the car, a woman who is coming out of a club on Sunset Boulevard, lets him have it verbally. She’s thinking that he is trying to, well you have to read part one and part two to find out. You’ll also find out why this short story is called middle C. It has nothing to do with music or piano playing, but there is a metaphor. . The short stories and essays published in Thought Row Vignettes are written entirely by me, Rod Jones Artist and Writer, using only a human hand and imagination. Thought Row Vignettes Sunday Matinee. It’s a time to read a short fiction story. It’s a time to relax and let go of the cares of the world. . This week's short story, entitled The Other Tenant is a short sci-fi story. The main character’s name is Roy, he’s sitting peacefully nurturing and Early Times Whiskey with some 7-Up. Contrariness:  On a beautiful Sunday morning, you may be getting ready to go to church. Maybe you went for a long spiritual meditative walk. After church, you may be heading over to Denny’s for breakfast. Or like some, you get out of bed, throw on some clothes, head to your favorite coffee shop, maybe Starbucks. . I’m hoping that you don’t start out your Sunday morning by endlessly scrolling. Leave that for the weekdays when you decide to use doom scrolling for the dopamine rush, you may think it will help you avoid the cares of the world. . I used to post my weekly short fiction stories on Wednesday or Thursday. I often found that it wasn’t that good posting during the week. I also discovered that most people have a problem, reading a short story thinking that they are not being productive. But the truth is reading a short fiction story can be one of the best things you can do to relieve anxiety and stress. . I’m now releasing my short stories on Sundays. Although AI has told me that is probably a slow unproductive day as opposed to Wednesdays. Well, I don’t care. I’m hoping that people will take the time, maybe Sunday afternoon or evening after they have their dinner to simply just be entertained by reading a short fiction story whether it is mine or someone else’s, please give it a try. I can almost guarantee that you will be more relaxed and have a different outlook. It may even trigger a meditative moment. . I Suspect Your Present Self Is Not Your Final Self  . It’s a fact, but not a particularly curious one. We all leap from one year to the next; there’s always self defining moments to be discovered in each and every one of those passing years.  . Who were you yesterday? Who will you be tomorrow? Who is the fortuneteller? Is it the one who looks in the mirror and sees themselves? Maybe it’s the one who looks out the window hoping to discover; but what?  . I cherish the word improbability, it’s the defining moment. The one that just happens to be right there on the threshold of doubt.  . Just think for a moment, when you look in the mirror or out the window, you are the prodigy of evolution. Every minute of your life, you are evolving. Who you were yesterday is not the defining moment of your life. It is the story of your life. Like a well written novel or a short story for that matter, there is a beginning, a middle and unfortunately an end. The pages, one by one, that preceed each other are defining moments.  . Learn to read those pages. If you do this seriously; you will discover something profoundly wonderful about yourself. You are here, you are alive. The past chapters were the ones that defined you. Those definitions may not always be your happiest or your proudest moments. In retrospect, they may often be perplexing. But that’s how you became you. The one who can look in the mirror or the one who can look out the window. . If you’re searching for the answer, if you’re searching for the meaning of your life, there really is only one thing you truly need to know; “Your Present Self Is Not Your Final Self.”   . The short stories and essays that appear on the Thought Row Vignettes newsletter are written entirely by me, Rod Jones Artist‑Writer, with human hand and imagination, no AI assistance. Any imperfections in grammar or punctuation are authentically mine. I Don’t Do Journaling - Joyless: kind of harsh; right? Not for you but maybe for me.  . Journaling is the raised drawbridge over the mote, leaning into the castle of my own highly protected imagination.  . Sitting down with pen or pencil, and an organized journal, is more terrorizing for me than writing about one of my character's psychological arcs. My short fiction stories live in my imagination. Journaling is like taking a photograph of the Eiffel Tower to prove to yourself that you were there. . If you are someone who likes to make journal entries about something as simple as what you did on a given day, all the way to that argument you had with that special someone. Then I think you are a special journal entry someone. Famous-famous people of all ages and genders are magically entranced by every word, especially nouns, that they carefully jot down in their personal journals.  . I know there is a difference between a journal and a diary; maybe it’s just the opening line, “dear diary.” I  never hear anyone say dear journal.  Maybe, I’m just not disciplined enough. If I’m going to commit myself to writing a single word, a sentence, a paragraph or even a whole book. It won’t be about me. It will be character driven with a little bit of luck, somewhat cinematic, and for sure it will be written by me because I won’t be using AI.  . I just had a thought. Can you engage with AI to write your journal? Might be even more interesting to have AI write your diary entries. If you try it, let me know how it goes. . Rod Jones Artist-Writer is the author and publisher of Thought Row Vignettes, the mostly weekly newsletter with engaging short fiction stories that are especially written to help you stop the scroll. Yes, the algorithms don’t like it.  . . #journaling #thoughtrowvignettes #rodjonesartistwriter #cinematic

When You Write Be Weary Of The Tastemakers Tastemakers and algorithms will always tell you what “counts” as literature, what “works,” and what you should write next. Don’t forget posts and hooks; there’s always a bunch of opinions tied in somewhere. . If you’ve read my writing or essays on my newsletter, it’s abundantly clear. I do not write for tastemakers. For better or worse, I write for an audience of one: myself, and one real reader who needs a humane escape from the noise. If I’d be proud to sign a story and one person tells me it mattered, that’s my idea of success. . The more divided and destructive the culture becomes, the more important it is to stay human, stay sane, and stay true. Do what you love, write what feels honest, and let relevance be measured in actual human lives touched, not in likes and lists. . I think sometimes we forget the taste makers of literature or writing in general, are usually academic types. They have never written anything meaningful. Like critics, they can only express an opinion, that’s usually based on what they proposed to be the cultural norm, no matter how jaded.  . Write from your soul no matter what your age. Always be in a state of becoming, never in a state of stasis.  . Rod Jones is an artist-writer; writing dialogue-driven short fiction that lingers in threshold moments and overlooked lives. Every story is human-written; no AI, just Rod paying attention to the world and putting it into words.
