How big was Ray Leonard-Thomas Hearns? Even the tune-up fight (where both fought at the Astrodome) for SRL made the cover of Sports Illustrated (this was going 'viral' back then)
Also, SRL moved UP in weight to face a world champion at 154
Both guys fought in late June -- and then clashed in September.
Yeah, the game was different (and better) back then #boxing @MatthewAguilar5 @BreadmanBoxing @LymanPauli44654 @dougiefischer @MonteroOnBoxing @BruceTrampler

Roberto Duran had one true inspiration: Ismael Laguna. But he was not the only one who loved Laguna. An entire nation fell in love with the man. Rightfully so, he was a true gem. #boxing

Week 0 is OK, but anyone miss the old Kickoff Classic games? The original was at the Meadowlands in Jersey. I went to the 1999 game between Miami and Ohio St. Then Disneyland had their version at Anaheim Stadium and I went to a few of them.
They would usually have ranked teams playing one another from different parts of the country. It really felt like college football was back once those two games were played. Not sure how many teams want to play tough games any more right out of the game in non-conference settings.

Last night was far from the best fight I've seen, and far from the worst. It was....mediocre. It's emblematic of today's diluted sport
When you've seen the likes of Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran and Hagler growing up, and then had the chance to cover the likes of De La Hoya, Trinidad, Mayweather, Pacquiao, the way I was fortunate enough to, this stuff will pale in comparison. It's just the way it is.. #boxing

Roberto Duran was flattened in frightening fashion by Thomas Hearns #OnThisDay in 1984.
Hearns hadn’t been quite the same since breaking his right hand against Wilfred Benitez and he knew it. “I don’t just need to win,” he said ahead of the clash. “I need to be devastating.”
Hearns promised a second-round knockout and delivered. Down twice in the first, Duran had his lights turned out in the second by a right hand. “The Hitman” was back.

I really like the Lamont Roach-William Zepeda fight, so much, I'll probably actually go to it. It's worth the trip. But Roach will be coming off a 9 month layoff coming into this bout, Zepeda over a year.
You cant convince me this inactivity improves the quality of these fights #boxing
