I’ve worked in admissions, so I get the crunch, the attention to details, the meticulous nature of ensuring that we made the right decisions about young people’s lives … AND I’m asking … can we find a way to do it and have decisions come out before March 30th?

It's time to rethink how we rank universities.
NEW PAPER ALERT: What if instead of ranking schools by institutional prestige and selectivity, we placed value on those that lifted up the most students and left them better off?
Harvard, 👉#4, moves to #847.
Yale, 👉#5, moves to #495.

Look at these acceptance rates! Look at those SAT scores! Think about how much more time students spend on studying, test prep, and applications/essays now versus 30 years ago (or even 60 years ago).
We're ruining lives. What's the return?
Just look at these acceptance rates for the fall of '89. Penn: 41% | Wash U: 54% | U Chicago: 45% | MIT: 30%. Thanks to @James_S_Murphy for asking me to pull some of these old @usnews rankings from the garage.

Every student applying to school (& their parents) should be reviewing this data about test optional choices.
News: 24% of @CommonApp users included ACT/SAT scores in some, but not all, apps they submitted in 2020-21, per new analysis: bit.ly/3DRTRy9 #testingstrategery 1/3
Depending on the student, I recommend 2-4 reaches, 2-3 matches/fits, 1-2 safeties. More than 8 is too many; less than 5 is too few.
Seniors should apply to a balanced list of 6+ colleges. Students in the class of 2022 who update their college list on BigFuture to have at least 3 reach colleges, 2 match colleges, and 1 safety college will earn a chance at $500. spr.ly/6010y0bm0 #OpportunityScholarships
