"Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is from Tears for Fears' 1985 album Songs from the Big Chair. The synth-pop classic reached #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #2 in Canada, #2 in Ireland, and #2 on the UK Singles Chart. Although Roland Orzabal was initially reluctant to record the song, it went on to become the band's signature hit and won Best Single at the 1986 Brit Awards.

25,480 people. Daily cannabis users had 39% lower odds of glaucoma. Not proof of causation, but another compelling reason to investigate. Australia can prescribe cannabis while criminalising people for growing the same plant. How much evidence before policy catches up?

Mindaroo don’t list most of their donation recipients and @TheAusInstitute won’t reveal their major donors so I suppose we won’t ever know. Why do tax free ‘charities’ get to act in secret. The charities minister @ALeighMP is friends with CEO of Australia Institute and speaks at their events.

Nobody should be in prison for smoking or growing weed! Prison is for rapists, thieves, and murderers, not someone who smokes a plant.

The EUs two biggest net contributors to its budget are France and Germany. France is on the verge of bankruptcy and will likely need a bail out by the ECB. Germany is already challenging the existing costs of EU membership, not to mention the regulatory restrictions which are strangling economic growth. All this and they haven't even started the repayments on the EUs one trillion Euro debt mountain, payments of which are due to commence next year. Alongside this the EU plans to expand into Montenegro and Albania following the completion of negotiations next year. A costly exercise in its own right. They will never admit it but the EU desperately needs the UK back as a major financial contributor simply to survive. Only an idiot would think that rejoining the EU is a sound move for the UK. @andyburnham is that idiot.
France is struggling for money. U.K. is perfect to pay up.

Nearly 50 years after prohibition, Nepal’s Supreme Court has given the government three months to regulate cannabis for medical, scientific, and industrial use. The court also wants lawmakers to consider changes to recreational cannabis laws, though adult-use legalization isn’t on the table just yet. hightimes.com/news/nepals-su…

I checked & was informed this is a true story about a guy out fishing way out in the water & saw an iguana swimming for its life. This video is about men who perform good acts, even when no one is watching.

Pamela Anderson married Tommy Lee four days after they met. On their honeymoon they filmed themselves having sex. An electrician Tommy refused to pay stole their safe with the tape inside, the one with their sex on it. In 12 months the tape made $77 million. Pamela got absolutely nothing from it and never even watched it. Then Hollywood made a whole TV series about it without asking her. New Year's Eve, 1994. She was the biggest star on Baywatch and the most famous Playboy cover girl in the world. And her boyfriend was the drummer of Mötley Crüe. Six weeks later they ran into each other in Cancún. And four days later they got married on the beach. At her wedding she wore a bikini. They filmed everything. Boats, beaches, bed. 54 minutes of a honeymoon. Back in Malibu, Tommy was renovating the house. He fired an electrician named Rand Gauthier and kept his tools. Gauthier said he was owed $20,000. So he came back at night and stole a 500-pound safe out of their garage. He was hoping for guns and jewelry. He found a videotape. He took it to a porn producer. They cut it down to the sex. Then they sold it. In 1996 it hit the early internet, one of the first viral videos in history. Pam and Tommy sued for years. In the end an internet porn company kept the right to stream it. The tape made $77 million in under a year. "I blocked that stolen tape out of my life in order to survive." Her career took the hit. His didn't. Late-night hosts asked her about it on air. The marriage didn't survive either. In 1998 Tommy went to jail for spousal battery. She says it was the only time she was ever truly in love. Then the husbands. Kid Rock. Rick Salomon, the man who sold Paris Hilton's tape. Married, annulled, married again. A Hollywood producer: 12 days. In 2022 Hulu released Pam & Tommy, a series about the worst thing that ever happened to her. Nobody asked her permission. She refused to watch it. A year later she released her own memoir and her own documentary. No makeup. Her words. Some lessons are written in other people's mistakes. Watch it once. Remember it forever.

While Labor is renegotiating its UK free trade agreement to cut British backpackers, it is actively working to EXPAND its free trade agreement with India, including on migration. The Indian government has cited work on a more 'ambitious' deal covering mobility (immigration).

"Those UK backpackers are arriving in very large numbers … and they are staying at Bondi Beach or Coogee or around particularly the capital cities and working in hospitality there," Mr Albanese said. "That's placing enormous pressure because it's distorting the labour market in these areas as well." So Albanese has a problem with British migrants "distorting the labour market". I wonder if he will comment on the far larger cohorts coming in from other nations. Or would that be racist.... abc.net.au/news/2026-11-02/a…

Dua Lipa's husband, the guy most likely to be the next James Bond, smoked weed every single day from 18 to 26. He was working as an actor that entire time, booking real roles, and he still says he missed four years of his life. That sounds impossible until you learn how your brain keeps track of time. It figures out how long a year lasted by counting how many new memories you made in it. And THC goes straight for the part of your brain that makes them. That part is the hippocampus, which is basically where your day gets saved. It's packed with CB1 receptors, the exact thing THC latches onto. In rat studies, when researchers switched those receptors on, short-term memory fell apart in a way that looked a lot like what happens when the hippocampus gets removed. It gets worse at night. Your brain does a lot of its memory filing during REM sleep, and THC suppresses REM. That's why so many daily smokers say they stopped dreaming. When they quit, REM comes flooding back so hard that "disturbing dreams" are literally listed in the official medical definition of cannabis withdrawal. Then there's motivation. A 2014 brain imaging study out of London found regular users had a lower capacity to make dopamine, and the more they smoked, the lower it went. The people with less dopamine also scored higher on apathy. So you skip the new place, you don't call anybody back, you stay in, and tonight looks exactly like last night. Psychologist Claudia Hammond has a name for the other side of this. She calls it the holiday paradox. A week on vacation somewhere new feels huge when you look back, because it left you with a pile of fresh memories. A month of the same night on the same couch shrinks down to almost nothing. Researchers are still arguing over exactly how much memory drives it, but it's the best explanation anyone has for why some years feel like they never happened. Now listen to how Callum Turner put it. He said he never smoked on set, but as soon as he got home he was "a real addict." So the hours he spent working were the hours he was fully there for. Everything after he got home turned into the same evening, over and over, for years. When he finally looked back at that stretch of his twenties, there just wasn't much to look back on. The good news is your brain bounces back faster than you'd think. A 2012 NIH study found daily smokers had about 20% fewer of those CB1 receptors, and after roughly four weeks without weed, their levels were back to normal. Turner did quit. He married Dua Lipa this year, and last week he was reportedly in the final round of Bond screen tests. He told the Independent it took him about nine years to accept the four he lost.
Callum Turner says his cannabis addiction made him miss four years of his life, even while he was building his acting career. Speaking in 2020, the actor described smoking daily between the ages of 18 and 26. He said he never smoked on set, but once he got home, he behaved like “a real addict.” “I definitely missed four years of my life,” he recalled. Turner said he eventually stopped through compassion for himself and a determination to change, because he didn’t want to keep missing his own life.
