I took this picture of Jodrell Bank telescope from a return flight to Guernsey last Friday. An important landmark from my childhood in Cheshire. Horrified to learn that its future may be in doubt because of government decisions.
Racing through Cheshire on a @northernassist train. It’s great. The WiFi works and the windows open - enjoying the breeze. And so inexpensive.
I hadn't travelled on @networkrailWCML for more than 20 years, until recent trip on a @LNRailway service. Crowded and no WiFi. Travelling to Crewe for a funeral, I thought that @AvantiWestCoast would an improvement. How wrong I was. 1/2
The @AvantiWestCoast service was seriously overcrowded. I had to stand for the whole journey - even with a seat reservation. And no WiFi. At least the service was sufficiently late for me to submit a refund claim. And @andyburnham plans to run the UK from Manchester!
To Lichfield for meetings tomorrow. I have not been here for many years, and had forgotten how beautiful the cathedral is - reminiscent of Chester and so very different to Lincoln, Winchester and Salisbury cathedrals.

No one should be celebrating what seems certain to be the imminent departure of #Starmer & arrival of our 7th PM in 10 years
Something has gone horribly wrong in British politics. Stability & competence were key parts of what made us a great country.
Poorer quality politicians, the cheapening of political debate (in part social media but also MSM) & rise of so called populism led to #Brexit & the decision to leave #EU just exacerbated the demise of competent Govt, sensible politics & decent politicians.
It is indeed rather curious.
If Keir Starmer does resign, history will look back on his reign and scratch its head as to why the hell he was so hated.
On paper, he's probably delivered more to working British people in such a short time than any PM for decades.
After inheriting an absolute mess: NHS waiting lists fallen. Worker's rights improved. Rail operators nationalised. Improved relations with EU and improved UK's global reputation. Removed non-dom tax status. Halved childcare costs. Boosted state pensions. Lowest homicide rate in 50 years. Lifted 550k children out of poverty. Immigration vastly reduced.
We are in the age of billionaire funded misinformation, whose sole purpose is to topple democratically elected leaders, and insert leadership that favours the wealthy elites over the working people. Looks like the game plan is working...
Replying to @CastleCornetGSY
@CastleCornetGSY is one of the jewels in Guernsey’s crown. Our Aussie grandchildren are loving it.
Still light enough in the evening to enjoy the newly erected street decorations in @GY1Parish
At Government House in Guernsey for the King’s Birthday reception. Always a lovely opportunity to catch up with people and, this year, to say farewell, as we prepare to leave Guernsey on my retirement at the end of July.
Always a joy to visit Sark. Even better when the sun is shining and the seas are calm. I will miss this rather special and her people.
Fireworks to close Guernsey’s Liberation Day. Tomorrow, to Sark to commemorate the liberation of that island in 1945, a day after Guernsey.
Jurats in purple gowns and advocates in black waiting for the parade to the Town Church for thus morning’s Liberation Day service in Guernsey. And the military parade after the service.
A lovely morning at St Andrew’s church in Guernsey. Sir Terry Waite came to the church to preach for the annual service for the @GuernseyLitFest - of which he is the honorary chairman.
