Had a lot of fun writing this one. Hope you enjoy it: AI can't help you if you spend your day talking to colleagues cantbefired.substack.com/p/a…

0.5% stamp duty on UK listed stocks is another great example of how our taxation system sucks.

Your employees are quietly robbing you with AI, and you probably deserve it cantbefired.substack.com/p/y…

The UK's had mandatory gender pay gap reporting for 10 years now. I built a tool that tracks how 15,000+ employers have actually performed over that time. Some trends are... not great. I'll be updating with a few leaderboards over the weekend, once everyone's 2025 filings are in (deadline is Saturday!)

💡 Most people talk about AI in terms of the problems it solves directly. I think that misses the point. ⏱️The real impact of AI is second- and third-order: it has collapsed the cost and time of building software by an order of magnitude. When software becomes 5× cheaper and 5× faster to create, the business case changes for EVERYTHING. The closest example I can think of, is injection moulding. Plastics didn’t just replace wood or metal. Injection moulding made complexity effectively free. Once you’d paid for the mould, adding ribs, clips, textures, snap-fits or hinges cost almost nothing. Entire categories of everyday objects suddenly became worth making - not because demand changed, but because economics did. AI is doing the same to software. It doesn’t just automate tasks. It makes bespoke internal tools, edge-case workflows and “nice-to-have” automations suddenly viable. Software becomes disposable, experimental, and abundant - and that quietly reshapes organisations far more than any single AI feature ever will. 📉The cost of bespoke business process software and automation just crashed through the floor. Complexity just became "cheap". Injection moulding changed the everyday lives of most people. AI-built software will too.

I like em dashes, and I hate that some people now take them as evidence of text being AI generated.

I think late stage capitalism is owning a hundred devices and spending your entire life making sure none of them die before you do 🔋

I want to love @TIDAL, but both the Android and iPhone apps have a total meltdown offline, making it practically useless commuting in London, or on flights 🤨

The @ridingunicorns_ podcast is out. Not the usual @vorboss chat, in this one we get into infosec, and infrastructure in a post-Snowden world (amongst other things!) linktr.ee/ridingunicorns_

It's astonishing how many leadership/CEO/business coaches pitch me for business every time the company has any publicity
