During the pandemic, the wealth of upper-income households in the US grew much more quickly than that of middle- and lower-income households. By 2022, upper-income households had 49 times the wealth of lower-income households.

In the 19th century, railroads consumed about $173 billion in today’s dollars and created more than 2% of the nation’s GDP over 20 years. Today’s data center buildout: $10 trillion in investment and nearly 4% of GDP. stateline.org/2026/10/16/dat…

Imagine buying a Lennar home for $500,000 in 2023 with 3.5% down. You put up $17,500 and borrowed $482,500. Now Lennar is selling the same home for $375,000—with incentives. Your equity didn’t just vanish. You’re more than $100,000 underwater. You’re not a homeowner. You’re a hostage.

The NFC East is so bad. Not a single team won this week, which is quite impressive considering two of them played each other.

I’m doing a 5K on October 18th to support research at the Tulane Cancer Center, here in the Deep South. I wanted to do something fun, so in addition to wearing an N95, I will wear an additional N95 on my person for every $50 donated (runsignup.com/mask). $50 = 1 N95 $500 = 10 N95s $5,000 = 100 N95s $50,000 = 1,000 N95s Any partial donation would help. $10 would add an additional mask for 1K of the race. A penny would add 1 meter with an additional mask. I’ll sum partial donations and round up in the end. Even a penny🪙 or reshare🔁 would help. FAQs World Record 🔹There does not presently appear to be a Guinness World Record for most N95s on an individual in a 5K. 🔹This year, I will go for an informal record. Guinness has not yet responded to my request to go for an official record, but there is always next year. Good Health, Safety, and Environmental Modeling 🔹I will mask properly. Extra masks will not be worn on top of my mask. 🔹All masks will be individually-wrapped N95s. I will eventually wear them or donate them, if someone wants them. Caveats 🔹It’s a fun run. All donations are final, even if weather or an injury strikes. Inclusivity 🔹There are many ways to support health and health justice. Please also contribute to your local mask bloc or engage in advocacy in other ways too. There are many great causes. 🔹Many people with chronic and serious illnesses are housebound or cannot run or could run but would then crash for days or weeks after. This is no endorsement of the primacy of exercise-based activities. How Your Donation Helps 🔹Your donation supports the fight against cancer and normalizes masking. 🔹Funds support the Tulane Cancer Center. Last year’s funds went toward a project to reduce the chances of bone metastases in the context of breast cancer. 🔹I avoid financial conflicts of interest like the plague, so I will not accept any payments or apply for any funds. Please help spread the word!

New from the New York Fed: "By February 2026, tariffs had contributed 2.9 pp to goods price inflation, and without them goods prices would have fallen slightly." About one quarter of every point in higher tariff rates shows up in consumer prices within one year. • A 10% across-the-board tariff yields a 2.6% rise in consumer goods prices after one year. • About two thirds of the increase comes from pricier imports, which get passed through quickly. • Another third comes from U.S. made goods, as producers face higher input costs and less import competition. This takes longer, about 6-12 months, to filter through.

Incredible. First @SecMullinDHS claimed that @DHSgov identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials said, no no no, that’s just people we flagged, here’s the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.

The article opens with yet another spouse of a US citizen being detained at @USCIS green card appointment and being jailed by ICE. Malena Chacón Santos came to the USA legally, married a US citizen, but USCIS refused to process her application and set her up for an arrest.
The Texas Tribune interviewed five Texas immigrants — from Mexico, China, Iran, Cuba and Venezuela — who shared their experiences of being arrested by ICE and living in detention centers across the state. bit.ly/3V6q7dZ
