Ministers have been secretly warned that some English reservoirs are at risk of running dry, hitting water supplies to homes in the run-up to Christmas
The governmentās emergency committee, known as Cobra, is meeting up to twice a week to discuss the situation in the southwest of England and Sussex
A secret āreasonable worst-case scenarioā was drawn up, anticipating that several reservoirsā water stocks could fall to 0 per cent ā dubbed āday zeroā ā within weeks
Officials warned that without action, supplies to some homes could be affected, along with disruption to the construction of a nuclear power station and operations at a prison
Wimbleball reservoir, which supplies more than 400,000 people in Somerset, has 13 per cent of its capacity, while Ardingly, which serves 280,000 customers across West Sussex, is at 17 per cent

Today I made what was meant to be a light-hearted self-deprecating remark. I didnāt get it right and it hasnāt come off as I intended.
I fully support our Home Secretary and the governmentās position on migration reform.
As I said earlier this week, itās absolutely right that people should have to make a contribution to this country in order to earn citizenship.

Becoming increasingly strange the way Nigel Farage insists on keeping Kassam a close member of his inner-circle. Every day he toxifies his and Reform's brand even more. What is it that makes this guy indispensable to him.
What is going to last longer... collective responsibility or traditional whipping
An interesting reflection on this from Miatta Fahnbulleh herself.
Speaking to journalists today, she said: "I made three promises to myself when I came into politics. The first was never lie, which has created some awkward moments, including being interviewed by Sophy Ridge yesterday."

Technology is genuinely one of the most terrifying things to try to cover
I feel so sorry for @joetidy he must have thought that gig would be nice and quiet and BANG 4 and PHP and other explanations to people who have no idea what heās banging on about but canāt get into their banking app or gov account and heās dragged onto the telly every day to try and say it without 300000k nerds saying heās said the wrong thing slightly with the name it was 2 weeks ago and had been for 3 decades. Like poor sod.
Good thing the OBR has no big projects coming, and a track record of impeccable cyber practices
Consistent with guidance from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), we have taken our website offline in view of the critical security issues affecting PHP. We will continue to follow further guidance.

It is getting extremely tiresome with speaker always blowing up at this. Ministers could not have given the statement before midday today, and if it was on Monday then it would have been after 3.30pm or maybe not even possible on a Friday.
Prehistoric scheduling is the problem xitter.cf/JackElsom/status/21129ā¦
What's harder to pay off: Plan 2 Student Loans or Government borrowing during COVID
This does very much look odd, but googling and reading some of the litigation points to a Home Office decision mainly, so not unreasonable to assume Powell not invovled.
Not, though, something that should be worming its way into public on X... but don't stop on my account
I'd love a podcast of Dominic Cummings and Darren Jones... and after each chapter seeing what the CO press office comes out with as a response
šØ Darren Jones: officials repeatedly told me I couldnāt act ābecause of the constitutionā
The former chief secretary to the PM told PACAC:
- āI would often reply with, āThe constitutionās unwritten. So if I decide to do something, it changes. Therefore, why canāt I do it?āā
- He tried to āabolish the Cabinet Office three timesā
- He was not āallowed to abolish the Cabinet Officeā

Anyone falling for the NESO spin that today's report clears them needs to give their head a swivel
SO many parts in here show issues

I still find it crazy how much energy we pay to not use, and then buy again.
Would love to see if price could be added to this viz
Here are the curtailment and turn-up actions over the past weekā¦
This is a cumulative view of š” curtailed energy on the transmission network, as well as the š¢ energy turned up.
This includes both transmission constraints as well as actions due to regular balancing of demand.
You can clearly see the regional patterns with most curtailment volume occurring in Scotland and most turn-up volume in England.
By volume the curtailment actions are predominantly wind farms in Scotland, most likely due to transmission constraints at the boundaries.
The turn-up actions by volume are mostly gas assets replacing the still-needed energy that couldn't be transmitted from Scotland.
Both of these highlight the need for the grid upgrades that are under construction today.
There's also been some curtailment in England, the majority by volume at offshore wind farms. Various battery assets also had accepted bids to delay discharging energy back onto the grid.
I'll soon be releasing this interactive historic playback on the map for you to play with yourself.
