Sometimes in the NHS it’s easy to feel you just cannot win. Today’s event showcased 30 posters on how teams are delivering real improvements in patient flow in the hospital. Incredible. I was blown away by what people have achieved. Today, it felt like we were winning.
Hugely impressive showcase of the @uclh #Sprinttosuccess work. Great to see so many partners @uclh in the room all focused on making life better for our patients & staff - great leadership @AlisonClement15 @LukeOShea1 ⁦@sallybeyzade⁩ & all your brilliant teams 👏 #OneTeam

Reported deaths 21% above the 2015-19 average this week - even higher than recent weeks, & includes heatwave deaths. Complex picture with huge pressure on NHS, direct and indirect covid impact, heatwave and wider social/economic factors. But this is high.
ONS deaths data has been released for week ending 22 July, the week of the heatwave. 1,885 more deaths were recorded in-week compared to the 2015-19 average. That’s 21% more. Year-to-date there have been 320,980 deaths recorded which is 4% more than the 2015-19 average.

We are deeply saddened to hear this news. Our thoughts are with Tom's family and all our friends in Scottish Rugby.
