how is openai making so many major scientific discoveries and doesn’t even have a public model as strong as opus 5.5?
this only points to two things:
either openai has a really strong internal model to be announced soon
or anthropic is really good at hiding how dangerously strong their internal model is
looking into gpt-6.1-terra's performance i can confirm gpt-6.5-terra will completely outperform claude sonnet 5.5 in every area
but the sad news is by then anthropic will probably have launched sonnet 6
gpt-6.1-terra is really fast but deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017 is faster, cheaper and actually open source. which is something openai should've done instead
openai just released gpt-6.1-terra which means we will get gpt-6.1-astra by the end of 28 day challenge (next week)
though 6.1-terra is incredible cheap at $1 input and $5 output, all the hype is for 6.1-astra
i’m super excited for upcoming 6.1-astra but and it’s going to be really funny of anthropic decided to drop fable 5.5 just after openai drops got-6.1-astra

even if openai doesn’t launch opus 5.5 killer, anthropic will still launch fable 5.5 in coming week because of their upcoming IPO
but in this ai race everyone forget about new grok 4.8 model which was supposed to be released by this month
seems like elon is the one actually pacing ai development
why are you still building SaaS when Grok Bot can literally do everything?
everything which required a separate app or subscription can be done by grok bot now, you don't even need to waste time and money vibecoding your own tool with claude/codex
fable 5.5 is launching next week as anthropic is panning its IPO on 9th nov and aiming for $2 trillion valuation
meanwhile openai's 28-day challenge also finishes next week and one big surprise launch is expected on the final day of the challenge which could be gpt-6.1 astra and so far gpt-6.1 terra has also been rumored
next week is going to be the biggest ai week of 2026
