Shocking new directive: Today, the Taliban's Minister of Vice and Virtue announced a ban on adult women's voices in each other's presence. In August, the Taliban banned women's voices in public, deeming it provocative. Women protested to this ban by singing and poetry.

Afghanistan: The latest arbitrary arrests of political activist Jawid Kohistani and journalist Hekmat Aryan point to the relentless repression under the Taliban's rule against anyone who dares to speak up and peacefully express their views. These reprisals are in complete violation of Afghanistan's obligations under international human rights law.
The Taliban de facto authorities must immediately release Jawid Kohistani, Hekmat Aryan, and others who have been unlawfully arrested and stop the practice of enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention, and torture and other ill treatment of people exercising their right to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly.
