Shamar Elkins shot and killed eight children, seven of whom were his own kids, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Police said it was a domestic disturbance that escalated into an execution-style shooting, adding that some of the young victims tried to escape. He also shot and injured two women, the mothers of his children. The children, siblings, and one cousin, including three boys and five girls ranging in age from 3-11, were identified as Jayla Elkins, 3; Shayla Elkins, 5; Kayla Pugh, 6; Layla Pugh, 7; Markaydon Pugh, 10; Sariahh Snow, 11; Khedarrion Snow, 6; and Braylon Snow, 5. Troy Brown, Elkins’s brother-in-law who lived with him, said Elkins’s wife had recently sought a divorce and the deranged dad was distraught about his marriage breaking up. Elkins stole a car after the massacre, leading to a police chase that ended with his death. This marks the United States’ deadliest mass shooting in over two years.
